DC/VA/MD Get Together?

wow Phil - thanks for your gracious offer. I'd have offered exactly the same given enough square footage, it's so much nicer to get together at a private residence especially when there's lots of gear to keep track of. I gotta put new strings on my Fodera to get'er ready =0)

BTW I'll let anyone who wants to play with all my gear. I'll have my Brice 6 string fretless, Fender USA Jazz V, custom green four string Jazz (with a for sale tag), and Tacoma Thundercheif. My rig is a 1967 Fender Bassman and Eden D210T.

I was also considering renting out a shelter at Bull Run state park that had electricity.But, if it's not too much trouble for you, count me in. August 1st might me a little tight for me, but the 24th will work and the will 25th work even better. Nice excuse to get out of chores from da wife.

I'm trying to figure out what to bring in terms of gear. I'll bring some drinks or food, and I think it'll be a good idea if everyone else did the same.

A shelter at Bull Run Park would be great! but it would put us at the mercy of the weather. Maybe we should do both..... :) Or use my place as a "bad weather backup" location. If it's a goregeous day outside we're going to hate being stuck inside, and I have no deck or anything at my house (it's brand new - we're barely moved in). By the same token if it's miserable outside it will be nice to hole up in my basement.

I don't know how much it costs to rent one of those places, but I would be glad to contribute and back-up. I recently played a tiny Christian music festival there and the pavillion was really nice, electrified, and would be perfect for this kind of gathering.

It would put us at the mercy of the weather, but if it's as nice as it been lately it would be great. I talked to a friend of mine and he said it cost him $85 to get a small pavilion with electricity. If we took up a collection on entrance it shouldn't be a problem at all. I'll need to look into the availability, as well as noise ordinances. The other issue is that you can't drink beer or any kind of alcohol there. So if you over 21s want to have a brew it will have to be elsewhere.

What does everyone else think?

Hey Phil, thanks for opening up your house for us, that is way cool! For me, the dates are all good, seeing as I am not gigging and not going anywhere for vacation this summer. The idea about having the party outside is great, but my concerns have already been voiced, being weather, rental cost, and noise restrictions. It is a really good idea to have that inclimate weather back up plan, that is good thinking.

I say that everyone that attends should to bring one food/drink/diningware item, or $5 to put into a massive pizza order. Once we get a solid guest list, we can set that up. I'll do my part to help set this up by taking care of that list of what we need and who brings it. I'll get the potato salad (my mom's famous recipe) :D :D

Pizza = greasy hands = bad for basses. Therefore pizza = bad idea IMO. But we can come up with something a little more bass friendly; a couple veggie trays, cheese & crackers, maybe some hot dogs or something.

The noise shouldn't be a problem at Bull Run if the recent show I played there is any indication. Of course that was a rainy day (hence the near-zero turnout - glad I didn't gigspam that one!)

Good point about the pizza. I agree with the veggie trays, cheese and crackers, hotdogs, etc. Like I said... They call me.... tater salad...

Either locale is fine with me, seeing as I don't drink (being well... 17), and I was just making a joke on that.

Does Bull Run have grill facilities? Some parks have those grill things for public use, and that could be useful. Unless of course, you want to be grilling for a bunch of (hungry) bassists ;)

I talked to the guys at Bull Run park, and they have one shelter available on the 25th that has electricity. No other ones are available on the 24th. The problem is that it is $175 for the whole day. They won't do half days for this shelter. It's a little more than I expected.

As far as noise ordinance is concerned, I'd have to talk to the park manager to get an OK.

Keep the ideas coming. We're getting close.

Crap, sorry for arriving so late to this pre-party! I'm very much into a GTG. I can't host (townhouse) but can bring basses and/or rig. A jam might be fun so long as y'all pay attention to everybody but me. :p

Anyway: the 31st is out for me because I have two gigs, afternoon and evening... also one on Friday the 30th. But I will do August 1 even though my fingers will be sore. :eek: The weekend of 7/24 7/25 is clear for me so far.
