De Armond Starfire II Bass

I just bought a Starfire Bass De ARmond By Guild ( and received it a couple hours ago ,) and I'm trying to figure out the year it was built :

I have the serial number : KC9053338

Any one could help me ? please ? thanks a lot !

It's a beautiful Sunburst one and it sounds pretty good , I may change the strings and put some flats on it

No expert but a quick google suggests May '99 - the 9 after the KC apparently denotes 1999 follow by the month, 05 in this case, which would be May.

I never played any of the DeArmond basses. I had the DeArmond M72, and tried a tone of the guitars. I liked the guitar humbuckers quite a bit for a stock pickup.

I have an old DeArmond pickup sans cover on my P Bass of Doom…

Yeah, 1999 seems a reasonable guess given when the DeArmond line was around. I think Fender dropped it in 2002 and sold a few models from the line branded as Squiers for a couple of years after that.

Congratulations and Compliments. Those are pretty nice bass guitars... I've had two; a sunburst one like yours and a black one. I never knew how to pinpoint their production year/month, just knew late 1990's while Fender owned the brand. The black one even had a Fender gig bag.

When you shop for strings, remember to account for the 'afterlength' of string behind the bridge. The Starfire is a short-scale but you'll need longer strings for them. Just measure first. I had LaBella flats, D'Addario Chromes, Pyramid Gold, and finally Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flats on mine.

I've found her "sister" , only a month apart according to the serial number !
