So, I'm placing an order with Pickguard Heaven (formerly Chandler guitars or something like that, I believe) and thought I'd start a thread on it so people can know what they're like; also if you've dealt with them before, please let us know how it went and the kind of job they did, pics are welcome!
So, I started emailing at the beginning of the week, and got a response yesterday. However, this is the second time I've had to email them; the first time I got no response (which may have been my computer's fault; sometimes it just doesn't feel like sending emails). So far, they have been really helpful and polite with me, helping me pick out what the best pickguard option for me is. I'm converting a standard Jazz Bass to a P/J Jazz bass. We've decided they're just going to make me a Reggie Hamilton guard... easy enough. They're going to get back to me (soon, hopefully) with a quote on pricing.
So, onto the things I like/dislike about them...
What I like so far:
1. They're polite. This is REALLY important, at least the way I see it, if you're even thinking about running a business and want to be considered professional at all.
2. They have A LOT of different options; shape-wise and material-wise. There's so many different types of guards you can order, and they already have descriptions for most of the guards you'd want to order, so unless you're ordering a way way out-of-the-way shape, or you're doing something totally custom, they probably have what you want already listed on the site. Also, they have a massive selection of materials.
3. I really like the website layout. Some of you may not think this is very important, but I really think it is. Everything is clearly labeled, navigation is easy, and you can easily find what you're looking for on the site. Contact information is displayed clearly as well. Again, you may not think website layout is very important... well, I visited Jeannie's (or w/e it is) pickguard website and maybe it's just my computer, but it was terrible. It was so hard to navigate, the page was set up awfully, and I visted the bass pickguard page... and there was nothing there except a copyright notice and a link to his ebay store. Hmm.
What I don't like so far:
1. It seems a little pricy, espicially considering the turnaround is 3 weeks... I just kind of think they could have lower prices considering how long you're probably going to end up waiting for the pickguard.
2. It takes them a little while to get back to you... or maybe they just don't check their email as often as I do (which is like every 2 seconds). I've heard this from other people too, though.
3. I felt like I should add a third thing because I put three things I do like... I guess, some of the pictures of materials weren't that great, but otherwise... yeah.
Sorry for the uber-long post... hopefully someone takes the time to read all my hard work!!
