Dean Club!!!

F hole. (I’m referring to the bass, not myself or anyone here. :) )
I’m asking as I have both.
I bought the F hole HBF intact and left it that way.
Then one day came across the body of the Cat’s Eye with no neck and thought it would be cool to make a fretted version.
I found a great priced plain jane Rhapsody 1 in black and tried my experiment.

I haven’t given up on it. I just put it away as I was getting quite frustrated and didn’t want to do anything stupid. I do plan to come back to it.

There is/was a red Rhapsody 1 for sale on ebay or reverb a while ago that still might be around.

One thing I haven’t tried yet is getting the HBF I left intact as part of the mix. That might solve everything.

An SR neck would be a perfect solution for me if it worked. I can fill and re-drill the neck, that’s no problem. I’ll get mine out and measure the neck heel.

I remain hopeful. Thanks for being helpful.
Do you have the original fretless neck? Can you tell me if the S/N starts with an E or a US?

A true artist had fun with that one. I’ve never had the stomach to do that to an instrument I paid hard earned money for. However, EVH, Ace Frehley, Steve Vai, Jaco, Gene Simmons, all heavily modified their instruments or had 100% custom ones built for them.

Especially EVH and Jaco....wow. Those are 2 of the all time best, maybe they were onto something.

Thanks for the link,

Don’t get caught up in a bidding frenzy. Set your limit and stick to it. There will be others, not nice like that one, but there will be others. Good luck.

Ahhh...the newest member of the family. Guy threw in a parts donor for free.

Looks like it could work. Guess I need an sr neck to try it. Thanks for the help, folks. Wish me luck.

Sorry I haven’t had the chance to reply or measure my existing Dean necks in that area. But bases on your measurements it looks like it may work.

Also measure thickness as the FB may not be high or low enough.

The FB on the Rhapsody neck also has a significant overhang that might not be on the Ibanez.

The Ibanez SR neck also appears to have an angled cut at the heel, so I’m not sure how that needs to be addressed. This may be a job for Super Luthier, not a Jimmy Olsen like me. My first task is to find an SR neck with a headstock color that will match the Dean body. I don’t think Ibanez orange, red, or silver will match very well. So I guess my choices may be to either learn to play fretless, or start planning and saving for a life long bass project. Hmmm...
