Dean Club!!!

It would be interesting to see how other manufacturers made their V basses for comparison. Gibson used a set neck.

I am ok with bolt on construction because I’ve always liked having the option to put a different neck on at some point. I’ve never really done that, but I can if I want!

Most other V type basses (there aren’t that many) have a fairly substantial pocket for the neck to fit into. I believe the tighter the neck joint, the better the sustain.

I just noticed the fretboard radius on this. 16"... Man, that is a really flat fretboard. The flattest FB I've ever played was a 12" radius. I like a flat FB, but I'd like to try out 16" Radius.

WHAT’S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?

You’d have to reposition the bridge to fix it. But if you did that, the strings wouldn’t line up over the pole pieces!

In spite of all this, I still want one of the Metalman basses, I should probably play and inspect one at GC before I buy, though. If I ordered one online and it showed up like that....wow. The pic is straight from the GC website. Comparing different photos tells me they’re placing those bridges on by hand. They all line up differently In the photos..

Freaky!

Hi y’all :),
I want to change the neck on my rhapsody to a 24 fretted neck. Anyone have any suggestions for a drop in replacement? I would prefer 1.5” nut with narrow fretboard and relatively chunky neck.
Thanks.

I’ve done mods like that before on nice instruments....and regretted it! Since the rhapsody is such a nice bass, I’d leave it alone. If you want a fretted 24 fret bass, I’d just buy another one.

If there’s no talking you out of it, I’d contact Dean to see if they can sell you a fretted neck because those look non standard.

I
f you really want a custom 24 fret axe that you can mod the heck out of, build one out of a kit! (I built a 5 string a while back - it was great learning experience.)

Rhapsody basses already have 24 frets, unless of course you mean you’re changing your fretless Rhapsody to a fretted Rhapsody

I have tried this with my Rhapsody HBF with a Rhapsody 1 Fretted.

Basses were made in different factories (World vs Un Sung) and the ‘easy drop in’ that I thought I’d have is still in limbo.

I contacted Dean about getting a fretted neck and was told to call Warmoth. So I thought maybe a 24 fret Yamaha or Aria neck or something similar might work.

Yes, trying to change from fretless to fretted. Looks like the bridges are different too. My plan doesn’t seem very promising. But thanks for pointing out the issue of those 2 necks not being interchangeable because I almost bought a Rhapsody 1 last year for the neck, but the seller sold it to someone else before I arrived at his house. Now I’m not bitter about that anymore.

Today is a great day.
Thanks.

You can definitely do it if they’re from the same factory.

Look for E or US as first part of S/N.

My issue is that the neck won’t screw all the way snug into the pocket so it sets way to high for the strings

A TB-er here known as @2many went the other way... fretted to fretless with success so it is do-able. He’s very much into Rhapsody models so he may be able to help you more than I.

Which fretless Rhapsody are you working with?

There is one with ‘Cats Eye’ F holes with the pup midway between neck and bridge and one with traditional F holes with the pup close to the bridge.

Also, the bridges between the R1 and R HBF are different as you noticed but I don’t think the nut or overall string spacing is different.

Edge 4 necks are also 24 fret, but the bottom part of the fretboard is not shaped the same way.

There is one on EBay right now but it is incorrectly advertised and only has 22 frets and is MIC instead of MIK which is a dead giveaway that it isn’t from an Edge 4.

Actually I really think an Ibanez SR something or other might work better but don’t quote me on that.

F hole. (I’m referring to the bass, not myself or anyone here. :) )
