So I might be having something electronic wrong with my 4 string razor?
I thought something was weird and checked against my 5 string razor which operates normal.

Bridge and neck volumes should be clockwise for up counter for down. Seems Like the bridge pick up is the only true functioning pick up, though I can hear some slight sound when I tap on the neck pick up. Definitely not HOT sounding.
Anyway, it is weird. If I dial up the bridge pu and then turn counter clockwise on the neck pick up I loose all sound. I know nothing of electronics. Maybe some one could suggest some steps to take, a method to discount where the fault is and what the failure is.
thx ahead a time.

Usually the second knob below volume on all active Dean basses is blend and not a separate volume control. Have you taken the control plate off of the back to check all wire connections?

Could be your blend pot is worn out or at least worn out for the portion that would allow the neck pup to be heard.

You could spray the inside of the blend pup with contact cleaner

or try a dust cleaner first

All my deans are two individual volumes. But for the 12 string. (blend knob) So I was surprised when I noticed the 12 string has a blend knob instead of two volumes. EP5 rhapsody 8, 4 and 5 nt razor 4 and 5 all have two volumes and NO center indent like the 12 does.
I've had the back open before. Looks like I need to unscrew the plate again for inspection. I've got the cleaners and dusters. No noisy pots there. But the failure would think to be logical if the two volumes work off some wires that are common to both pots. Meaning, turning the neck down also some how effects the bridge too.

I will have to look inside, but here's my last time I was in there. It's too blurry to magnify very well, but just the fact the battery is hanging from the wire makes me suspect. Session tomorrow at 10 am. I'll play the fiver.

Any luck?

I checked on my Razor Standard which is the bolt-on version, and you are definitely correct about the 2 volumes, which surprised me as most of my other Dean active basses are Volume/Blend/Bass/Mid/Treb.

Here's pic under the control cover.

Looks like your battery holder was removed?

I have looked inside again. It is stellar in there. The previous photo I supplied was the last time I was in there. At that point I was doing a tidy-up. Battery clip was secured and that tape was replaced with shrink wrap. It's all in order with no visible loose connections. I once again verified the odd action of that one volume pot. I think the next step is to have a professional look into it.

Hope you find the problem and it’s a simple fix.

I wrote to Dave of Dave's world of fun stuff. I got a response in short order. Dave stated, "isolate the picup to figure if it's the pup or the circuit ..FIRST sounds like a bad pot to me".
I'm no guitar tech, but I fix things, all type of things. So next, how to go about isolating the pick up?

Don’t know, but I’m sure someone here can help.

I’m leaning toward the neck pot though

The pot terminal I am pointing to was mushed over a bit and grounding on the center terminal. This guitar's battery was not secured when I bought the bass. Whether I buggered it doing my work or the battery bouncing around in there before I got it is undetermined. What is happening is I spent the day ripping on this jazzy bodied thin neck wonder with all the sound tone variations you could ever need!
Thank you for helping me. Sometimes two heads are better.

Damn.
This thing totally kicks ass.......I love the slightly chunky neck, the single EMG with a volume knob is simplicity itself and it sounds effing great!
Perfect balance, subtle yet gorgeous black sparkle paint job, very comfortable body
Actually to me, the way the body is cut and sculptured on this reminds me very much of an Ibanez soundgear.......really comfy

How do you like having only a volume knob on an active P style pup?
The body is a bit of a more rounded Edge body. I didn't realize it had that much sparkle in the paint.

Here's a 2014 catalog page.
dean_2014_catalog_web 47 John Campbell.jpg

Based on my other catalogs it appears that Dean only made these for 2014.

Looks like the previous owner changed out the black hardware with chrome hardware.
[edit] I see you already stated this in a previous post. ;)
Thru neck like a ‘normal’ Edge Pro.
Nice!
