As far as how the mods turned out, I am just knocked out by how great the combination of Audere preamp and Lace Alumitone pickups sound along with LaBella Super Steps strings.
A couple of years ago, I found a Ric clone on FB Marketplace. It used two Nord Big Blade pickups which I was not crazy about. I had heard a lot of hype about Lace pickups and got a chance to buy two of their Bass Bar 35s fairly cheap (two different vendors). They were SO much better than the Nords it was unbelievable. I have since almost entirely stopped playing 4 string basses in favor of 5s, then 6s (obviously) so the Ric clone is now for sale.
Since I liked them so much, I thought they might be a good upgrade for the Dean, not realizing exactly HOW good they were going to be. I still can't get over how great this bass sounds considering the relatively small investment. The only bass I have that sounds better is my 2020 Ball Family Reserve Stingray Special fretless 5. That only cost 5 times more than the Dean, and I can tell you it doesn't sound 5x better, that's for sure.
A few years ago, a good friend of mine bought a new custom 6 string fretless F Bass. They sent him an extra set of strings and for some reason he had no use for them and sent them to me. (He still has the original set on his bass, so they do last.) I was surprised a fretless bass maker would choose to put stainless steel strings on a fretless bass. The strings (I still have the wrapper) were made specially for F Bass by LaBella and had exposed cores. But once I heard them, I understood.
They quickly became my very favorite round wound string. Years ago, I stopped using Roto stainless steel strings in favor of nickel and gravitated from Rotos (which I used almost exclusively for almost 40 years) to SIT, recommended by LowEndLobster (my favorite online bass reviewer). Those are great too, but nothing sounds like those exposed core Super Steps. Best sustain ever, great overtones, and crystal clarity.
I just ordered a set for my Ibanez 6 string fretless. I am less concerned about damage to the board and much more concerned about getting the best tone possible. I figure if they are good enough for F, they'll be good enough for the Ibby. lol.
Anyway, besides being a bass player, I am a retired electronics tech with over 50 years experience in repairing and modding basses and amplification equipment. So, if anyone needs assistance or advice on any aspect of electronics, I would be glad to help.
I get most of my knobs these days from Temu.com, sometimes from Aliexpress.

I’m surprised that your Mule Bass was actually made in India, because Dean Zelinsky has stated his Private Label instruments are sourced from Asia and then assembled in the USA.

Yes, it is a Dean 2010 EQAB Quilt Ash Exotica, but without the Aphex circuit. Definitely a looker.
