Dean Club!!!

@morgansterne how’d it go on Saturday?

It didn't! Wednesday he couldn't meet cause he was stuck at work late. We reschedule for Saturday afternoon. I message him to ask what time we can meet and get never got back to me.

I think he's regretting the low price he set. Don't know if he'll ever get back to me. I have Friday and Saturdays gigs money burning a hole in my pocket!

Bummer.
Don’t be in a hurry.
Another deal will turn up.

The new 6 string Dean Edge 1 is passive.
I’ve been eyeing it as well. The price is pretty amazing.

The 5 string is one pup and is a carryover from previous years

The six string Edge 1 is a new offering as they’ve never had a 6 string Edge 1 before. All other Edge 6 strings were variants of the Edge 4 which were all 2 band active. Same is true for the Edge 8-string

Edge 1 6 String Vintage Mahogany | Dean Guitars | Iconic Rock 'n' Roll Guitar Company

I would of figured that it's passive. I myself have never owned a 6-string bass. I normally play 5-string basses, but this one really intrigues me. whenever it's available, I would like to get one. the dean edge 1 5-string would be my second choice. speaking of which, I'm still curious about that bass. especially since it has a musicman-styled pickup. I can imagine how awesome that bass sound. that bass also intrigues me. I'll go with either one. especially since I'm in the market for a passive bass.

The new 6 string reminds me a lot of the Edge Hammer model, but that was also active.

I also noticed on their website that the Dean Edge Pro is no longer neck thru which makes me wonder what is better about it than the newer Edge 4 which has different electronics than previous Edge 4 basses

I remember the dean edge hammer. I thought that bass was pretty cool. I also remember the dean sledgehammer. I always think of the sledgehammer basses as dean's answer to the warwick thumb.

Since we're talking about active basses, I was looking at the dean edge 2 5-string bass. I've checked out one youtube clip of that bass and I thought it sounded pretty killer. especially since it has 2 sets of musicman-styled pickups. it's got a punchy sound with warm lows. definitely a bass made for metal. \m/ if I were to have one more active bass, I might consider getting that bass. but since I'm in the market for a passive bass, I would definitely go with either the dean edge 1 5-string or 6-string.

Never played one but I recall that @Wicked G tried a few Edge 2and Edge 3 somewhere.
Maybe he can fill you in

Yes I did. I tried both and really liked the sound of those MM style pickups. They were very punchy, the notes seemed solid, had quite a bit of bite with a hot output. The tone reminded me a bit of a more beefy Sterling Ray 34 which makes sense due to the dual pickups. I can't remember exactly what else I tried that day but the Dean Edge 3 in Silverburst really stood out to me. I wish I could remember what else I tried that day. Sorry.

I had originally planned on getting the Purple Burst and Green Burst, but after blowing quite a bit of cash on some Genz Benz cabs, GK cabs and a couple of G&L basses, I still have not been able to buy them. That's ok as I am extremely happy with the G&L's although I still would like to get at least one Dean Edge 3 as it really sounds good and looks sharp in person.

I'll give a full report once mine comes in and I've had a chance to play it. I'm involved in two projects at the moment so I'll be able to test it out pretty thoroughly in both a country and hard rock/metal setting.

Vol/Blend/Bass/Mid/Treble?

Good question. I did some research on this and it appears the Edge 3's come in two flavors (depending on the year of manufacturer):

Vol, Vol, Bass, Mid, Treb

and

Vol, Vol, Tone, Tone

The seller (Sam Ash) used a stock photo, so I'm not sure which one I'll actually get. I tried to verify with them, but never really got a clear answer. Unlike most players I know, I would prefer two volumes and two tone controls. IMO most entry and mid level 9v preamps don't have the juice to push bass frequencies very far (they just distort after a point). I'd much rather EQ at either my amp or my Tech21 DI box. If I need to cut mids for a slap sound I simply hit my MXR 10 band EQ pedal.

Hmmm, interesting and you seem to be correct, but the descriptions on the 2017 model stills says 3 band EQ even though the pictures show only 4 knobs like the Edge 2.
I believe I had this very same conversation with @Wicked G who claimed all Edge 3 where 3 band EQ as he tried them out a while ago last year

It's possible that those controls are stacked. My Ibanez SR900 has Bass/Treb, Mid/Para, Volume, and Blend in a stacked 4 knob configuration.

Usually I mod the hell out of basses I like, so if I end up liking it I'll probably change it anyway. If I don't, I'll sell it. :roflmao:

So, I've narrowed this down to one of three possibilities:

1. I've purchased a prototype (see video).
2. They threw up a stock photo of an Edge 2 on an Edge 3.
3. They are actually selling me an Edge 2, and labeled it as an Edge 3 (not likely as I verified this with them, and I don't think the Edge 2's were offered in purple burst.

I'll know soon enough.

Well I sort of jumped on the band wagon today. Last week I purchased a Dean EABC bass 2012 model that was modified with an LC-5 preamp. Came with Dean HSC and a nice leather Fender Strap. I made an offer and I didn't think it would sell and the next thing you know I got a message saying accepted and I need to pay.
I don't know who thought to replace the passive electronics in this with the LC-5, but I have to say it is a real good match.
Here's the sellers pics and one of my pics with my buddy.
@McG, @Leftka and @GretschWretch thank you so much for telling me the good things about this bass.
Gawd is it huge though compared to my
other ABG's!!!!
It's bigger than my Takamine GB72CE Jumbo
49 1/2" end to end, 18" across lower bout, 4 7/8" deep, 21 1/2" bottom of body to top of body and 12 1/8" across upper bout.

Nice...and that is a cool color. I was looking at the dean edge 2 5-string in a red finish. I think it looks awesome. I was thinking of getting one if I ever wanted another active bass. but since I'm in the market for a passive bass, I was thinking getting either the dean edge 1 5-string or 6-string(whenever that one is released).

My Performer w/ it's early Model number(DA-PBCE), B-Mac says he believes it's was crafted in 98, the 1st year of production. It's a Medium Scale (32"). I purchased it 9 or 10 years ago and never even realized it wasn't a long scale until now. I picked it up at a Pawn Shop in Dayton, Oh for $170 +tax to accompany a friend of mine on a few shows and never played it much. My son borrowed it 6 or 7 years ago and I recently repossessed it.
It has a very good neck, sounds and plays fantastic with a new set of DR "Rare", Phosphor Bronze strings.
It's nice to have it back, setting here next to my desk. I had forgotten how nice of an instrument it is. How can they sell such quality instruments so cheap.
**Peace**
