Dean Edge 5 Stock Strings

Hey,

Since a couple of years I'm the proud owner of a DEAN Edge 5 bass. I'm really satisfied about it, but the thing that bothers me is that I can't find the right strings for it. The stock strings were perfect (for me), but I've had a few other types of strings, but none were as good as the original.

My question now is : does anybody know what type of strings are used as the Dean stock strings ???

If not, what type of strings do you suggest for a 5 string bass, with the option of downtuning them to Bb Eb Ab Db Gb.
I play (death/trash) metal.

That's some serious tuning! Anyhow, there is a simple answer, email/ phone their customer support/ tech department. They will be happy to tell you as they are probably affiliated with the company. I know Schecters come with Elixor strings (with a tag to tell you) in an effort to make you buy elixors (it didnt work, i hate them).

I play a 5 string too, and I just love my D'addario EXL160-5 as they are easily playable (when grinding out some Strapping Young Lad bass lines) and sound great.

For you though, I would prescribe some Pro Steel (not nickel wound as above) as they gives a noticeable increase in brightness, attack, and growl. I actually prefer these myself, but the stainless steel eats your frets and finger board faster than anything, nickel wound doesn't. Anyway, try these: EPS160-5

Edit: The bass player for Cradle of Filth uses Rotosound strings, so that may help you get their tone. Having said this I tried them with my band, and the D'addario Pro Steels still came out as the best beyond doubt. Good luck!

Any strings should be able to handle that tuning (standard tuning down a half step).

Standard 45-130 gauge 5 string sets from D'Addario or Ernie Ball rounds would probably be the best middle of the road choice for your Dean. I doubt Dean puts stainless or flats or something strange on their basses out of the shop.

Second on the D'Addario ProSteels suggestion. Ernie Ball also has a great steel set that's under $20. Don't have my Dean Edge 5 anymore, but liked it a lot while I had it. An immediate string change made quite a difference.

The Dean Edge basses come with GHS Bass Boomers installed, .045-.120.
