Dean Jeff Berlin Exotic Signature

lol! I won't I promise! I only regret it because I'll never get my hands on a Patchwork ever again (especially at the price I got it for originally) and those Czech models have gotten so rare it's not even funny. The Rithimic's are cool, but I prefer the original Dean's. I used to say "oh you can pick those things up for nothin', I'll get another one one day". Little did I know they would fall off the face of the earth lol. Always wanted the quilted maple version you have, but I doubt any exist besides yours.Don't kick too hard...we all make mistakes from time to time.
I played the Peavey Palladium. It was fast as lightening for finger style!
Not on his original Fender bass (if by that you mean the black jazz bass he used in the 70's).
However, on his 'blonde' bass (P bass body, Bartolini pickups, jazz neck profiled by Mike Tobias), the neck pickup died on that bass. Eventually he removed the pickup and the attendant controls.
What is interesting about this particular signature bass, compared to other signature basses from Dean or anyone else, is that this was always the Jeff Berlin Signature Bass that Dean Made. They had special versions, better versions, budget versions and USA versions, but it was always the Jeff Berlin Signature Bass. It was never some other model made into a signature model by adding do-dads or extra bling. It always just was.
It was never anything else. It wasn't an Edge, Hillsboro, Rhapsody, Razor, ML, V, Z, Entwistle, Zone, Custom Zone, Zone II, EVO, Demonator, Razorback, Dime, Spire, Select, Custom, Improv, Stylus, Cabbie, Cadillac, Deceiver, Hardtail, Sledgehammer, Hammer, Exotica, Performer, Exhibition, Juggernaut, Paramount, B2, Metalman, Motto, Vendetta, etc.
You get the gist.
It was never anything else. It wasn't an Edge, Hillsboro, Rhapsody, Razor, ML, V, Z, Entwistle, Zone, Custom Zone, Zone II, EVO, Demonator, Razorback, Dime, Spire, Select, Custom, Improv, Stylus, Cabbie, Cadillac, Deceiver, Hardtail, Sledgehammer, Hammer, Exotica, Performer, Exhibition, Juggernaut, Paramount, B2, Metalman, Motto, Vendetta, etc.

And with every company he endorsed before and since, it has always been the same design. Even in his instructional video he had a seemingly one off Nova bass that followed the same principles; Thin neck, wide pickup spacing and a high quality bridge. The one question I’ve never gotten a definitive answer to is WHY he has the 2 pickups with such a particular spacing. I never found the both pickups together to be a very pleasing sound. He only ever uses the bridge pickup anyways, yet all of his basses right back to the Tobias modified P-bass have that pickup spacing. He must want it that way for a reason.
