Dean Markley Flatwounds ...

I used these strings for a long time and even had an endorsement deal for them. I only have a few sets left and am jealously hoarding them. And I'm out of the the Light guage, which were my favorite ones. :(

Your best bet to get close are the DR Legends, the GHS precision flats, or Labella 760FLs. But none will get the sound of the Dean Markleys until they've had at least several months to break in. The Dean Markleys sounded nice and broken in right out of the box. You might also try the Pyramid Gold Flats, but in my experience the G is way twangier than the rest of the set.

Yeah, I know a lot of people who would buy them. I talked to the guy at bass strings online and he said he gets requests for them from time to time. He said the company is adamant about not bringing them back. I've also been bugging them at DM. The guy i contacted there basically said no, but hey you never know. I think they would find a much better marketplace for those strings now that flats are so much more popular. They're really a perfect set of strings for people who actually want flats so to sound like flats... Plenty of midrange and fundamental, almost no top end, balanced, very comfortable tension. I just A-Bed them with a broken in set of Labella 760 Standard guage. I was really happy with the way the labellas sounded, much more so than the labella light guage, but find them way too stiff. When I switched back to a set of DM flats, the DMs had more gain, more fundamental, more midrange, less top end, and lower tension but no floppily so. Really wish they still made them. If we all bug them maybe they'll bring them back but I doubt they'd be the same.
