Decals, or new neck?

Hey TBers

I'm a lefty, and have a MIJ RI62 Jazz. My other bass is a MM Ray 5.
The Jazz has a rosewood board, and the Ray has a maple board - best of both worlds IMO.

I would like to "twin" them, so there's an aesthetic link between the two. My Ray is natural ash with a pearloid guard, so I'm going to get a pearloid guard to replace the tort on the Jazz. I was thinking of getting some of those decals for the board in pearloid block.

Or should I just seek out a new neck with pearloid blocks?
Any experience with these stickers? I often wonder if they would feel just like stickers and hamper my playing?

I have some, haven't tried them yet. Mostly got the tiny dot kind for side markers on fretless basses that don't have any.

I bought a Fender FSR Jazz bass last month and put on a set of fretboard decals...white pearl.

The Jazz bass in my avatar has them, too.
I'm thinking about putting black pearl decals on my P bass...maple fretboard.
Fairly easy mod and your fingers don't even notice they're there.

Was that the one with black stained fretboard and the sharkfin decals? There have been several, can't recall hearing any negative comments about how they felt, might want to check previous threads...

Very cool. I too have been intrigued by them. If decals (stickers) are good enough for Nathan East, they're good enough for me.

Decals: Cheap, easy, totally reversible. The ones I've seen stick really well, look great, and come off with no effort.

New neck: More expensive of course, may not be the right specs, especially if you're really comfortable with the current necks.

Guitar tech routes your existing fret boards and does custom inlays: Most expensive, permanent, customized and beautiful, same comfy neck specs.

I've done all three with great satisfaction. It depends on the guitar and your wallet.

I have a set of the white pearl block decals fron Jockomo on my jazz bass. They were easy to apply, make no difference in the feel while playing, and look great. They have been on there for several months and still look new.

They are a great cheap way to change the cosmetics of your bass.
