Decent weight rig to pair with Stingray

You have good gear, I wouldn’t give up on it yet. If this is your first active bass, start the bass and treble knobs in the middle. I have the MB500 regular, not Fusion, and having all tone knobs at noon gives you a smiley face eq. Bass heavy and high heavy and less mids. Flat is treble 10:00, next s knobs at 2:00 and bass at 10:00. This might help with your current gear.

I too would suggest starting with new cabs as you have a great amp already. Lightweight wise, the GK Neo line (older silver grill models can usually be had cheaper) or the Mesa Subway line. Just my $0.02 based off my experiences.

This is not my first active bass. Thanks for sharing your insights. I was actually considering change from Fusion to MB 500. We are finishing to prepare our new rehearsal space with accutic panels and sound dampening curtains, sealing diffusers etc. I am still planning to give it a go before deciding. I would really go just with older silver Neo cabs if I decide to switch. I enjoy this amp when plugged into DAW via DI.

My only problem is lack of older Neo cabs on second hand market.

I have the III series of Neo cabs - same configuration as you so I have the highly elusive Neo 210 I purchased before they stopped making them. Another idea already stated is to get an High-Pass Filter. Should run you about $100 which will remove some of the boom and tighten up your sound. I'm glad your going to give you gear another shot. If you can, find out what a flat setting on your amp would be then you really will know if it's your cabs that are the culprits.

I'll do that around the end of June in more acoustic friendly zone and share the outcome! If I would find Neo cabs in the meantime I might got tempted!

If you are concerned about weight and have the budget for it, look into the GR Bass carbon fiber cabinets. I started using their cabinets last year and they are amazing! Hands down the best sounding cabinets I have ever played through. The tone is very focused and clear which if you are a sloppy player may not be a good thing! LOL

Then there is the weight. Insanely light weight. My complete rig which includes (1) 2x10 cabinet, (1) 1x12 cabinet and a Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 900W amp only weighs 36 lbs! I had a single Fender 2x10 that almost weighed as much as this whole rig!

I was looking into GR Bass some time back but I just can't get convinced by it. Same was with Mark Bass. I tried MB in Guitar Center and it wasn't my pair of shoes. I suspect GR would deliver similar kind of vibe. I am expecting cab and amp to give a bit of color :)

That's the beauty of them, they don't add color. That gives me more control to fine tune the tone using the amp and the bass. If your cabinet colors your bass tone too much, you end up having to compensate for that usually with the amp. Each one of my basses being a Fodera or my Kramers have their own distinct tone and are accurately reproduced through these cabinets.

Personally I have never been a fan of Mark Bass and their cabinets don't even come close to sounding as good as these GR Bass cabinets.

I hear you and glad your found your sound. I am not looking for a clean sound though. Anywhere close to the clean sound that I just love is trickfish.

Recently I had a chance to check out Darkglass 212 cabinet. It seems to me it's great sounding cabinet for a decent price. I could see in some of TB threads people pair them with GK 700RB. I am wondering how it would sound with GK MBF. Could you please share your thoughts or experience?

So now I have ended up having both GK 1001RB II with Silver 212 Neo cabinet and Mesa D800 with two SW 112 cabinets. I will be A/B'ing them this Friday to see which one stays. I've already played thru Mesa to GK Neo cab and I liked it more than GK into GK so far!
