Decent weight rig to pair with Stingray

Hello All Bass Friends,

I've finally got the bass of my dreams! I have managed to get 1998 MusicMan Stingray5. Right now I might be needing to look for new Amp and Cab(s) to pair with it. Right now I own GK MB Fusion 500 with CX210 and CX115 cabs. They sound great but little boomy, muddy. I did go to my friends place where I plugged in my amp into EBS 410 Proline cab. It sounded so much more clear, punchy and groovy. I am seeking your advice how to approach it smart. It's easy to buy stuff and replace it. What are your thoughts and what could be next steps? Thanks in advance!

Give the GK Neo series cabs a try, the older silver grille ones are great too IMO, the newer ones are a bit on the pricey side.

Lotta companies make some great cabs...Mesa, Markbass, Hartke, Aguilar, and tons more. Fortunately the MB500 is a very lightweight head so you can carry it around to test on different cabs with ease! ;)

That is why I choose this amp! :laugh: Markbass set I have tried few times and it's not for me. I am leaning towards GK NEO (silver), Mesa or EBS.

Mesa WD800; I also consider your GK as a credible Amp
You mentioned preference for 10's and 12's for Speakers and I am sure you have reasons BUT Nowadays size and or type of drivers are not as easily categorized

The Mesa 1x15 and a few others can not be boxed in with past[as with 10's and 12's]; a simple listen will confirm that

I was 810, 4x10 or 2x10 'Guy' for decades; I choose 1x15 over Mesa 2x10 and am happy with choice BUT also would have been content with 2x10

Point being in may be better to judge Cabinets by overall performance, Quality with consideration for weight and size as opposed to driver size and or type

I also considered Barefaced 12's so I had all 3 sizes in play :)

Consider what styles of music you intend to play and think of their tones when you test out these rigs. Choose which works for you and your expected/known conditions.

Matching brand amps and cabs is a safe way of going as they're often designed to be paired together and there's pretty much a sound/rig for almost everyone. Plus it's easier going to one place playing many rigs.

Mixing and matching components can be just as rewarding but it can be a very long expensive tedious journey finding that "right rig" for you.. it's tedious going many places to play one rig.

I've used StingRays for over 25 yrs, the amp doesn't matter for "matching". If you have an amp you love, you can plug any bass into it and go.

I am mostly playing with single cab as one is at home and the other one in rehearsal room. I exclude this to be a factor.

I am having very hard time finding used GK Neo cabs recently. Literally I could find single 412 cab.
I was wondering what other cabs apart from Mesa (also hard to get in Poland) would you suggest?
Ampeg sounds fun but SVT 410HLF is heavy as hell! Is it worth the weight?
