Deep thought

For me, using the VT for a B15 emulation through my little club rig is perfect. I can't afford a real B15 and I wouldn't want an old one to break on me, so here I am, happy as can be.
'Course, if I get to the "Rider" stage with this band, SVT/8x10 will be #1 rig choice...

As someone who gigs a B-15 fairly regularly, I can safely say that it's way more rugged than people think it is. I'd say it's at least as rugged as any SS amp. Would I use one if I had to let union guys set my stuff up? No. But I set my own stuff up.

Wow somebody who knows who mad dog was... You have now been elevated to a whole new icon status level...

He also lived in MSP... Major player in AWA. One of my girlfriends was Larry Hennig's neice. I almost went AWA considered it a lot... Verne's school was just a few miles west of where I grew up... BTW I am not a huge wrestling fan, never watch it these days... BUt give me a good Crusher, the man who made milwaukee famous carrying a keg into the arena vs Verne match and I'd watch forever.

BTW my Dad and Uncle (uncle was larry hennig look alike also named LARRY) Groupies called out LARRY while dad and him were leaving the Calhoun Beach Manor about 1965 and larry turned around... Well those guys were out all night, like never came home....

I really thought that was cool, Mom like usual didn't talk to him for about a month... My Dad pulled that crap all the time. NEVER went to wrestling again.
As usual, your stories are so above the norm!

Yeah excuse me I'm having a email fight with my step Dad who sent out some BS about FedEX and UPS this morning..

Then when I corrected him this is really the way it was and you're all wrong about your slamming FedEX, he came back wheeling and I had to tell him I don't care where your BS comes from, when I lived it its the way it is...

If you don't want to believe me then don't send your BS opinions my way.

Yeah nice way to spend morning, intermixed with TB and HTT. The world will probably hate me.

Yeah lets correct the term, "STORIES" Dad these are life experiences, I'm not dreaming this **** up in a haze of METH SMOKE.

I love you too... BOB

BTW that is also why Dad is married to his ex secretary and Mom is married to step Dad... Just the facts Jack... Can't tell parents anything.

Most likely.

Here's another question I had - Do you guys think that more bassists have been turned on to the "Ampeg tone" because of the popularity of the VT Bass? I tend to think so.

Not a chance in hades...

AMPEG (notice I always capitalize like a logo) tone, was created by AMPEG, nobody else. Sheesh who started that rumor? :D Prolly the guys that make the VT BOB

Yeah I also want to blow up KIA's those commercials saying we didn't invent cars showing HAnk Ford's finest going together etc... Lets all take credit and ride out life on the Tone Stacks of Genius...

Yea, I remember all those guys from AWA, watched it out of Green Bay every Sunday after we got home from church. My faves were Crusher and his wayward cousin, Dick the Bruiser. Favorite loser; Scrap Iron Kadasky. Crusher had a daughter in the same HS homeroom as one of the gals I dated back in college. She was a doll!

I'm fortunate, never had the powdered milk stuff, grew up on a dairy farm.

Even worked with some of the MN guys who worked those TV crews. Let's just say they had fun.

On to the VT - neat piece of gear. Does it replace the real thing live? No. Does it sound mighty good going into a preamp? Yes. Does the fact it doesn't have a decent DI output tick me off? Yes.

Heck... outside the tubes, any point to point /turret eyelet/ non-PCB tube amp should actually be a bit MORE rugged.

The problem is that if I break my Carvin SS amp - I buy another one for $200. If I break a B15, I don't buy another for under about 7x that.

You would have to plug it in and dump it in a tank of water and then have it be eaten by a shark to make it beyond repair ;)

Tube amp repairs are surprisingly cheap especially on lower wattage guys like the B15.

I jumped on here because I thought I was going to get some bits of wisdom from reincarnated Jack Handy, instead I find a discussion. Boy, what a let down.

Anyway, I LOVE my Vt. Best $150 I've ever spent. This thing is seriously phat (I know, shoot me now). Though I don't really care for the "SVT" setting I'm really digging the fat tube setting with a touch more gain dialed in. I have to stand facing my cab so people don't see my "gass" if you know what I mean.

I have a kid that shoved a phillips screwdriver through the screen of my projection TV... and he has a younger brother... and I'm REALLY clumsy.

A set of power tubes in the B15 costs as much as my Carvin did... plus it weighs 3x as much, making it much more likely I'll drop it.

Being a gigging bassist in New York City who relies on the subway, I am perfectly happy to get some beefy SVT tone from a pedal instead of hauling an amp around with me. Now, if I still lived in Colorado and had my station wagon I'd certainly love to have the real thing.

Is there anything so small and wonderful as the VT Bass that can so closely emulate the great vintage ampeg tones???? What is the closest thing? Can a Mesa Walkabout do it? I am debating whether or not to just plug this thing into a power amp or get some micro rig (or close to micro) that can come close.

I know they are great and iconic but I am not hauling around an SVT/Fridge, Washers, Chicken Roasters, etc.....
