Defretter / fretelss effect pedal?

I know that some multi-effect boards have these (like the ME50B), but does anyone make one as a single stomp box?

I realize there is no way to replicate a true fretless sound - I am more interested in the idea that they eliminate or reduce fret buzz and clicking. I just can't find one as a single box effect & I don't want a multi-effect. Is there such a creature?

really, there's no single effect that emulates a fretless, or vice versa...

If you are trying to get rid of fret buzz, chances are you need to have your action checked. If it's off, you'll get buzz..

If you are trying to get rid of clicking, try an EQ to take out the higher frequencies

DOD fx25 with sens all the way down (dub mode) or sansamp bddi with full blend,might get you there.

A lot of multieffects (Boss, Zoom...) have a defretter effect but none of them really works. It just seams to cut all my highs, some of my mids and adds a shitload of reverb, which sounds pretty silly, at least on my basses.

I wonder what were those people thinking when they designed those effects?

try a set of flatwounds (goodbye fret noise) and roll off some highs from the tone knobs while using a sliding technique

FWIW:

Never heard of a defretter some I'm guessing it's something other than fretless simulation. The V bass does great for fretless but it still tracks the frets on slow slides, otherwise indistinguishable. Sounds like you're just interested in getting rid of noise.

You shouldn't get the racket if the bass is properly setup and played accordingly.

The are some pups that don't pickup such clatter for whatever reason. Can hear it clacking on the bass but not through the amp. I have a lightwave and it doesn't read string noise.

All the above is with TI flats.

I've only seen defretters in multi-effects, never as a single pedal. I definitely don't equate fretless and dub, so I wouldn't suggest a fat boost set env. filter to make your bass sound fretless or even simply remove fret noise.

Try putting more pressure on the strings with your left hand and rolling off the highs a little. Or turn up the volume and play lighter. And check your action. Pretty much everything will do, but work on technique before you try a tech fix.
