deltalite 2512 cab designs.

i don't, but the cab's outer dimensions are 30" H x 27" W x 14" D. it's made out of 3/4" plywood, with 3/4" baffle that's recessed 1 3/4". from those numbers (which would be 28.5"x25.5"x 10.75"" internally= 6990.1875 which is 4.521 Ft3 ). then you'd have to subtract the four inner cross braces, the center stiffener and then the speakers themselves.

Any opinions on how Deltalite 2512-II's would sound "just thrown in" to my (sealed) 62 Bassman 2x12 cab? It is 3.42 cubic feet, interior dimensions approximately 30.5x18.5x10.5" with a baffle board between the two 12's. Or would modern bass speakers destroy this cab? I want the ability to pop the stock speakers back in for blues guitar duties should I wish.

IME, 2512's are pretty forgiving and would probably sound pretty good in that cab. they do have a pretty big bump at 2.5Khz, but they sound great in my V4 (4x12) cab with my SVT.

personally i'd prefer K120's in the fender cab though, since i've had alot of those with d120F's and K120's and i thought that they sounded great, and were super efficient (sensitive) with lower powered tube heads.

So, after a fair bit of research and modelling in WinISD, I've committed to a design.
It will based roughly on the 212 design provided by eminence.
125L, tuned to 50hz. 9mm ply with a 12mm baffle using a bracing scheme similar to the fearful lot.

Once I've got it up and running I'll play with the tuning a bit.

Yesterday I got all the panels cut out, the baffle done, and one of the sides braced up.
I'll post some pics soonish ;)

I originally had planned to do 4 corner ports, but decided to do 2 triangular ports, either side, midway up the baffle for bracing of both the baffle and sides.
Hopefully it Scrubs up ok :P

I'm still yet to decide how to finish it, as duratex doesn't exist where I live, and I'm yet to find a good alternative.
I've looked at tolexing it, but that might be too costly.
The other option is to clear coat it, as the ply I bought is quite nice, and the missus gave me clear instruction to build something that will look good in the living room :P

Thanks. I asked because you expect to play with the tuning. That port style seems a little less friendly to tweaking than tube or shelf style. But it sounds like you've got it planned out. Look forward to seeing your pics.

Well, you could always make them deeper by going larger, but you don't need more area. You could also tune lower; assume you've already given that a lot of thought.

I have a couple 2512s; no plans for them yet. Looks like you've got a wide range of of tuning possibilities for this cab. I'll be interested in what you do there.

Understood. I didn't mean to suggest that you should enlarge your ports. Using your numbers, I get a peak port velocity of more like mach .003, so if anything, you could reduce port size a little. But really, it sounds like you've got a good design. Hope you get some build time.

I'm still waiting on some oxblood grill cloth to finish this bad boy off. I'm taking it to band practice tonight to give it a run, but it sounds pretty tasty already :D

Yea, I know!
It's a great size for me, and after lugging two solid aguilar db112's around, the weight of this is a delightful change.
I haven't been able to weigh it yet, but handling it makes me feel it's about equal to ONE of my aggies :D

Sound wise, it's great. I used it yesterday and today at a church conference, and was satisfied with it's smoother profile than the aggies, although the top end was different to what I'm used to hearing, as this is tweeterless with no crossover, or LPF.

DIY is great! I'm very pleased :D
