deluxe american alder or ash, active or passive

is the 2004 MIA deluxe american standard made out of alder or ash and if it is active and the batteries die does it become passive and i can still play the bass?

deluxe is always active, they do have an active/passive switch and it depends on which one you get if it's alder or ash, I think the natural finish is the only ash bodies

i see, then if the battery dies does the bass become passive automatically or do you have to switch it manually?
is this a matter of taste passive or active?

You have to switch it. Probably via push/pull pot. You get a different tone going passive or active,they're two different sounds in their own,and it also saves your butt in a gig.
