James' site is showing $1599 - w/o DI & $1839 w/ DI.
In terms of the VTBP-201S that I used to have, I think that would make a good pairing -- the new head: probably even more so.

Demeter VTBP M 800D @ NAMM

In terms of the VTBP-201S that I used to have, I think that would make a good pairing -- the new head: probably even more so.
Daaaauuumm. $1600. Seriously. I'm not saying the amp isn't worth the asking price. Just wondering for me, if it's past the point of diminishing return. Even at $1400, it is a costly little bugger. But at $1600 w/o a DI is def a stretch. Perhaps I'll just buy a TH350 for a backup to my TH500. Don't think I'll be spending $1600+ on an amp any time in the near future. Oh well, one can dream.
The HBP-1 with the built in Minnie 800D is $1829.
The Minnie 800D as a separate unit is $999.
I actually prefer the tone of the HBP-1 over the 201S.
As far as form factor, I do like this VTBP-M-800D better than the 1 rackspace units.
The Glockenklang Blue Sky is $1900.
TecAmp Puma 900 is not much less expensive.
My personal economics don't quite allow me to live my life in the High-Roller Lane just yet, either.
Maybe find a good deal one of the years on a 2nd hand unit.

I have (mentally) capped my bass gear purchases at $1000 per crack. I have always gave myself a cushion, say a few hundred or so. So at $1300-$1400 the Demeter was obtainable. A stretch, but obtainable.

over here in Europe one of these baby's without the D.I. comes in close to $2000 due to import taxes/duties. My German manufactured Tecamp Puma 900 cost me $1200 . The Demeter will need to blow the Puma out of the water to justify its price here in Europe IMO
Well there is the "sexy" category of course. The recent price boost is disappointing, but that's how it goes sometimes...
being a cali resident, the price tag for shipping and sales tax with the DI option just priced me out of the new game; time to wait for the used ones.
I have a VTBP-M-800D with Jensen DI on order from Club Bass in Toronto right now. Should be in by the end of the month. Can't wait!
Yeah, it's pricey, but it'll be replacing a 50lb db750, and I'll be clearing out some other gear as well.

Did you ever get a chance to do these comparisons? I know Ill be doing my own when it comes in but curious to hear your thoughts on each of these and the Demeter compares, esp the Monique and DB751
check out the Big E thread. they don't have a site, that i've yet seen, where models are clearly lined up in a product line, but it should be burried in their products discussed. still not sure i buy the design, but Duke used something similar in his cabs, so maybe there is something more than marketing snake oil to it. the only demo vids i've seen/heard have been ones using a hand-cam where the tone is hard to determine and the input clips the mic.
The MAS 46 is made by Mike Arnopol using Big E technology. The tech is for real! Duke helped with the crossover for this cab.

I was honestly impressed by the 46. The low B's on my basses can easily challenge most compact cabs that don't handle the 40 down to 30hz range and this cab delivered in spades all while being very transparent to the other frequencies that were being produced in the mids and treble. Very nice cab!! I want one!!

might have missed it earlier, but the Demeter site mentions the tone controls are passive, but also states they are +/-6db boost/cut. seems like passive is "cut only" in my mind, unless it is like the Mesa passive mid control where there is a baked-in boost and the knob is cut-only with 10-o'clock being "flat." can anyone clarify?
We had a delay due to a major refurbishment but will try to run it as quickly as possible. We were all set today to include a Mesa Prodigy but it went 'pop' on us before we could really get warmed up
Seemed like just a fuse that blew but didn't exactly the right replacement so we didn't risk taking things any further.
We did get a quick blast with the Demeter into two very different cabs - a baby PJB C4 and a big old Aguilar DB410. It actually sounded great through the PJB with loads of depth and absolutely massive through the DB410.
We wound the tweeter down on the DB to about 9:00 and it was beautifully smooth with loads of clarity.
I was also able to try the Demeter out with the AE210 at gigging volume with my band and the thing that really excited me was the responsiveness of the amp to my playing.
I was using a new Fodera so I'm sure there was a lot of input coming from the bass but the two together gave me a level of control that I've never even got close to with any other bas / amp / cab setup

Baked in boost is the norm in tube tone stacks. Active = in a feedback loop, passive = lossy stage inline between two gain stages or buffers. People often refer to Fenders using the classic passive tone stack as boost only for bass and treble. The James stack la Ampeg is boost/cut and passive, as one well known example.
