Demeter VTBP M 800D @ NAMM

If you have experience with a VTBP-201 pre-amp, you should have a good understanding of what this amp will sound like.

If you loved the 201 you will love this amp. If you tried a 201 and decided it wasn't your thing, then you will probably come to the same conclusion with this amp.

From some of those sound clips, the Dark switch adds an interesting tonal direction to the amp.

Odd question brought on by an unexpected raffle win at the Seattle GTG last weekend: Anyone have any idea at all how the Demeter would pair with an Audiokinesis cab? My first choice is still the Berg CN212, but... given the gift certificate I won the Audiokinesis cab would be a lot cheaper.

I can let you know in about three weeks or so. :smug:

I've got a VTBP M 800D about three weeks or so away. And it's going to get paired up with a TC115-8.

I'm guessing very well. The TC cabs are very neutral. Put good stuff in and good stuff comes out. I'm betting the VTBP M 800D is good stuff.

It should work great Fritz. Dunno if you listened to how my homemade tube preamp worked with Duke's cabs on Sunday, but that was a 1000 watt ICE module in that rig (different module model, but probably close enough), and my preamp kind of splits the difference between the Demeter and Monique ones in some ways, I think.

Unfortunately I didn't really get a chance to check out either your stuff or Duke's, your corner was always too well populated! Before I left I tried to get in there but a gentleman was really enjoying that EUB and I had to pack up and go.

Hmmm... well, we shall see!

Is the GC for a particular cab or just a $ amount toward one of Duke's cabs?

If it is the latter, Duke's cabs are all stellar, so it would depend on your tone goals.

His ThunderChild212 would definitely compete with a CN212.

The TC212 is just about the same weight, tad smaller footprint, & a bit taller with a couple of switches for different frequency responses.

Switches set flat, it should be smoother than the CN212.
It has a high end rolloff switch & a switch for a more aggressive midrange, so like three or four cabs in one.

Then there is his cabs that use 18" drivers -- Duke makes a bunch of really cool cabs & he is a very, very nice guy!

Can't really go wrong with either piece as they would be easily flippable if the fit's not quite perfect for your needs.

Yeah, our corner stayed very busy all day and I missed out on trying a ton of really cool stuff and hanging a little with you and several others I was hoping to get to know a little. Thanks for taking those pics BTW.

Hmmm.... the TC212 sounds interesting. Smaller foot print sounds good. If it's not too much heavier it could be a winner.

Edited to add: @Passinwind - Yeah, likewise! It was more well attended than I expected and it got pretty cramped. My pleasure as far as the photos go. They aren't great, but at least they're proof it happened!

Duke had one of those at the last Boise GTG and Michael Manring played through it for a while, with the same pre/power amp rig of mine that I just mentioned. It was killer, and seems like it should pair with the Demeter beautifully.

Too funny, I was just googling for images and found some of Manring playing through it. It's not quite as elegant looking as the Berg, but you don't hear with your eyes. I guess I'll have to send Duke an email and see what they're going for these days.

I haven't heard any of the Berg CN series yet, just the HDs, AEs, and most of the older ones. More flavors of killer, for sure. I have worked on a couple of the Demeter pres and really dug them a lot for their clean and tight nature and beautiful workmanship.

As I said earlier in the thread, the thing I love about Demeter kit is you get a wonderful weight to each and evry note, but without any unpleasant boom, so I guess the answer to the above is "yes". I have found you do have to dial in your sound, but once you get there..... :)

I found the CN212 was too "dry" for my taste with the Demeter. My HD210 is, for me, a much better match.

Just got the Demeter VTB M 800D and had some time to try it with my pair of SL112's... I can only echo what has been said before... very articulate and clean without being sterile... my Streamliner sound quite "muddy" in comparison...

That's why, with the streamliner, in the end I usually used the preamp of my Basswitch, direct to the Streamliner's poweramp, which I find to be stellar...

Seems that with the Demeter I will be able to make good use of the whole head again :-)


I haven't found "my" sound yet but I'm really excited about this.


Rehearsal tonight... will use it with my Barefaced 69er and go head to head with 2 Marshall-playing noisemakers :D
