Demeter VTBP M 800D @ NAMM

Funny you mention the Basswitch. When I had mine I found its EQ superior to that of my regular head so routed through the power amp stage just as you did. It soured me in a way as I thought it cumbersome to have two pieces of (expensive) gear for a result that should arguably be attainable by one. Perhaps the Demeter is it (?).

Did somebody comment on the Dem's low end reach?

That's why, with the streamliner, in the end I usually used the preamp of my Basswitch, direct to the Streamliner's poweramp, which I find to be stellar...

Seems that with the Demeter I will be able to make good use of the whole head again :-)


I haven't found "my" sound yet but I'm really excited about this.


Rehearsal tonight... will use it with my Barefaced 69er and go head to head with 2 Marshall-playing noisemakers :D

I have only plugged mine into my CN212 and it more than keeps up with drums and a single guitar.

I would imagine through the 69er, it should be capable of demo-ing a small building.

Here it is. Managed to get an hour in this morning in my office. Still playing with the tone, but I'm impressed. I can't set up both cabs without destroying my condo neighbours... :)

The Demeter sounds just great in my classic rock band setting...
Together with the Barefaced 69er it delivers great tone that punches right through. While I'm still experimenting with the settings I basically used what I saw on Lee Sklar's pre as his marked settings and took it from there. I have the impression that every note is defined, with just the right amount of growl and a great foundation. I used my Basswitch in the effects loop and tried with adding a little bass from the Basswitch eq...

I couldn't be happier with the initial results.... and yes it is loud I had the volume barely at 9 o'clock and was competing with two guitarplayers and a very loud drummer...

Yeah. I've played a lot through a 410XLT with varous amps. Hard to beat, but the 210's are the better size and weight for me. I'm a fan of the 210XST's bigger lows and smoother mids. I get a lot of mids from my bass, anyway.

This weekend I'll be using the Demeter with two cabs. Should be lots of fun!

I am thinking of ordering a bag for my rack-unit. I don't like the look or the bulk of a 2unit rack case or bag, but I would like something big enough and protected to put it in so I can throw it on my shoulder.

Just had to post--I have to admit that I haven't read trough the thread.
Mark just loaned me the VTBP M 800D to check out with my cabs.

I have a Monique and Tecamp Puma 900 on hand.

Just played a pop/r&b gig with my MAS46 and a 12 piece band.
Big ballroom in downtown Chicago.

At home I thought that the Monique was a more pristine studio-type sound than the Demeter. The Monique was more refined but the Demeter was a bit more up-front--a bit more pop and midrange grind. (in a good sense)

On the gig---holy moly! Thick but controlled sound. More aggressive but still musical midrange presence. The notes just popped out with the perfect amount of bloom.

My only problem was---I didn't realize that there was no DI output. I tried plugging into the preamp out into a direct box and it took my overall level down too much. Fortunately my little 46 goes really loud so I didn't really have to go through the pa.

I love the amp but no DI is a deal breaker for me.

Thanks again to Mark---I'm returning it to you on Monday---just had to check it out on a gig!

I wish I could afford to have both the Monique and the Demeter--different flavors of great!

Don't know. When I plugged into the preamp output the level dropped a lot. Apparently not isolated I would guess.

With the Jensen I'd definitely consider getting one.

On a live gig where you want a great sound and need to cut through---this amp is stellar. To be honest, my Puma 900 sounded reticent and constricted by comparison. And the Puma is my favorite ss amp.

In terms of output volume being hit when running the pre out to a separate DI, I'm told that the VTBP-M800D has some restive isolate, but as long as it is connected to a high impedance input like a good DI (Radial J48, JDI among others) or a power amplifier, there should be no or an unnoticeable amount of interaction interfering with the output level. If however, the pre out is plugged into a mic input it will mess with your stage volume in a way that can potentially inpire a little less joy.
