Demeter VTBP M 800D @ NAMM

I have an old 201 with the Minnie 800D internal.

Based solely on the model name, photo and counting the knows and switches, this appears to be exactly that in a snazzy new case.

I absolutely love my 201/800.

I have it running into a Berg CN212 and it is just about perfection.

Yes, it's a great match, tonally, though it does feel weird putting a rack on top of the IP112. The IP's are all voiced to be pretty neutral, and the HBP-1 has a great "baseline" tone with decent tone-sculpting abilities. It will be a fairly revealing rig, though, so if your bass (or technique) is (are) not up to snuff, you'll hear it!

Looks like my order will be going in for one of these this week - only decision is whether to but the 'basic' version or to add the extra cash for the Jensen DI model.

I rarely use an amp DI for recording so would only need it for a live PA feed and I have a choice of pedals for that anyway.

Choices, choices eh :)

Probably, but so far, I've gotten best results pairing my ML112's up with heads that have a bit more going on the "middle mids." Still, the 201 front end does give you pretty good control over the mids, and that output section is definitely going to work well with the ML112's. I give it a projected qualified thumbs up, but as always, you gotta just try it to really know.

Get the DI.
The VTBP is a great front end for recording for, not only bass, but just about anything.

Looks like a winner and certainly I love the Minnie power amp. That said, two features on my wish list would be:

1. standby/mute. With a "real" tube preamp, I prefer to keep that powered up all gig/day. With my current setup if I've got a long break on a gig or I'm in-between practice sessions at home, I leave Monique powered up and shut down Minnie.

2. separate input gain/trim (a knob on the outside) and master volume. Not because I want to try and get overdrive, but rather I like the extra flexibility. This has been discussed ad nauseum on the Monique thread, but I know what I prefer.

In a clean pre where the design intent is consistent clean sound from 0-10 on the volume how does a gain control add flexibility?

From what I understand, this amp does have a gain control - but it is a trim pot inside. I typically run my bass wide open (except my Rob Allen, which is hotter), so I want to set an input gain on the amp to get a good "feel", then have a master volume for my overall "loudness." I'm old and stuck in my ways :cool:
