DemonFX Pedals - Any good?

Yes, it serves as a balance between the clean low end & the OD/distortion of the top end.

Drive sets how much OD/distortion is applied to the top end.

Using the HPF & LPF knobs, you sculpt the tone of both your low end & top end.

There is so much control over the tone of your OD & distortion it's ridiculous. One could literally take this to a country gig or a metal gig, no problem.
Seems like between this and my harmonic booster, I could bump my EHX Battalion off of my board altogether.

I ordered this one!

At first I was worried that the "X" was going to be a great OD/distortion unit, but not enough to stand on its own as a preamp. But it sounds great to me, either with Drive applied or not. I think the HPF/LPF/Mix has a whole lot to do with that. It thickens up my bass tone very nicely - when I turn it off, I instantly want it back on. I'm definitely using this an always ON device & with no other preamp. That I wasn't expecting. Will it work for everyone in that regard, I dunno. But it's working for me as both a great preamp & OD, big time.

I got the super symmetry, mini chorus, precision drive, Freedman be deluxe, and 2 d7k ultra pedals.
They all sound amazing and are super high quality. Oh I just ordered the microtubes x and the cali76 clones as well. Can't wait for the 76 I've heard great things. Don't sleep buy some demonfx.
Ps my guitar player has the dual gun as well and that one sounds great.

Where did you order them from?

I am torn. The prices are enticing but I want the Origin Effects Super Vintage or Blackface 64. I need to be patient and save. I am not a gained up type of player. I want the "power section and speakers pushed hard" vibe which is decidedly a vintage type of thing. I could be enticed to try the Cali76 clone though

Mostly on reverb just cause it's easy. You should look into sushi box fx if u want that old fender sound the underground accelerator is great. But the super symmetry and the d7k ultra from demonfx gave me a sound that is very desirable to my ears. Together they really shine.

I read somewhere, (could have been here) that someone opened up the DemonFx Cali 76 and there were five metering LEDs hidden inside.
To me that suggests it’s just another compressor rebranded. Could be their version of the Super Symmetry or maybe a pumpernickel. Either way they don’t sound at all like the Cali 76 so I don’t really see the point in it looking like one.
The best marketing these pedals get is people calling them clones. A clone is an exact match. That’s why Dolly the sheep was so controversial. If someone stuck a load of wool on a goat it would have been less so.

Found it

I remember seeing this and found it odd that Demon FX would bother to add the LED and then seal it in the enclosure.

That said, I don’t think it necessarily means that it’s a different compressor or that it sounds nothing like a Cali 76. It may or may not (I have no idea), but the term “clone” doesn’t mean that it’s an exact replica (although obviously DemonFX doesn’t shy away from that), but that the effect is using the same components in the same way. The Mooer Bass Sweeper is an EHX Bass balls clone, but they look nothing alike and the Mooer added knobs for the controls that are only available as internal trim pots on the Bass Balls.

Just because DemonFX didn’t expose gain limiting through the jewel lamp doesn’t mean that they didn’t try to copy the rest of the compressor (although, again, I can’t speak to this one way or the other since I don’t have either).

A clone is genetically identical. This pedal is similar cosmetically.
The Mooer Bass Sweeper is a modified version of the Bass Balls circuit.

I believe they already have a clone of the Super Symmetry as well
