Depressing/Tragic movies?

"About Schmidt" is a depressing movie and makes me want to die before my 60's.

Agreed,"Grave of the Fireflies" is an amazing movie! Don't let the fact that it's an animated film throw you off,once it gets going you won't even notice.

"Of Mice and Men" and "The Grapes of Wrath." The Gary Sinise and John Malkovich version of the former is my first real exposure to both actors and they're excellent. Steinbeck books are gold for depressing movies.
Also see "The Great Gatsby." It's pretty depressing if you've read and analyzed the book by Fitzgerald.
The Cronenberg movie about people who get off on car crashes?
I still have no idea why someone would name their movie Crash when there was already another movie years before by a famous director.
