Congratulations on putting yourself out here and taking the first steps and risks.
My only advice is to be patient. I have a lot of friends who have been through this (and i've been through it in a minor league way). getting the best help is a challenge. There aren't that many great therapists, and it can be work to find one who's great for you. It's worth it if you go that route.
And realize there's a lot we don't know about depression. Everyone's an expert in their particular training, but they're not an expert in your exact circumstances. Person A will prescribe the latest antidepressant, person B will want ask you to recite every detail of your childhood, person C will hypnotize you, person D will invite you to bible study. One of these people may have the answer, but only you can know which one.
The advice to talk to your family ... both for support and for depression history ... is a fantastic start.
