I like a really deep tone bordering on muddy but clear with a punch to the chest that knocks the breath out of you and growls when appropriate with full mids and clear highs.

Fresh,brand new nickel strings that sound like they're falling of the bass and the only thing holding them on is your hands... Ok got that sound in your head... Now give it a almost flat eq with a slight mid boost. Light tweeter and pre amp to fit room

I'd get closer with Fodera than Cobalts? I already do all digital, maybe my problem is settings even after everything I've tried...

Fodera strings are made out of piano wire, so they have the same chimey overtones that is a trademark of the piano. Try em out, I'll never use another string brand again.

There is no "tone" in my head. I set up, I warm up, I adjust the amp for whatever sounds good to me that evening. That makes it quite easy to be happy...and I have no intention of pursuing some mythical "tone".

I never care for my tone as long as it was pleasing. I have more important thing to take care of than the sound coming out of the amp
