Can you think of a bass-heavy retail store so good that you would consider a long drive, or even a plane trip, to visit? Where the selection is the best, and the owner is, if not at great-guy status, at least attentive? Anywhere in the world.

I will be traveling a bit in the next few years.

Maybe wouldn't buy a plane ticket, but here's another vote for Bass Central in Fern Park, Florida (about 10 miles north of downtown Orlando). I've spent hours in there in the winter. Once you TAKE OFF THAT BELT!!! you are free to play anything hanging on the walls. And to plug into anything on display. Which is a LOT. Lotsa gear and lotsa basses. Owner is a pro bass player, all employees are bass players. Michael even has a photo of himself doing the splits in spandex! How cool is that. Website just got changed so I'm not familiar with it just yet. But you can get lots of custom shop basses from everywhere. Got $8,000 to spend? They got you covered. Want a good USA Fender Jazz delivered anywhere in the CONUS? Got you covered. Prices are good and probably fair. I've bought new and used and had fun while in the store. Bass Central. Good guys who DO play bass.

IF you are interested in a Warwick or Framus (EB, EUB, AB) the Nashville Warwick Shop on 12th Avenue South (near Music Row) has one of every make and model hanging on the walls. Sit on a stool or on a sofa and play all day. I did and came away with my choice as to my next purchase. A few weeks later I had it. Nice employees and a very good Luthier in the back. Worth a trip to Nashville if you are within a state of Tennessee and are looking JUST FOR a Warwick. (And, while you are in Nashville, go hang out on Lower Broadway. Maybe 6 or 8 venues with live music every night. Good food - good music - makes for a fun weekend in Music City!)
