Where would we be w/o Hipshot! They consistently produce great products and this new bridge is the latest addition to their line. Doing the floating bridge concept solidly right! :thumbsup:

Yep, they have done the smart thing and built an entire collection of bridge designs around the A saddle.

Technically it’s not “floating”, since it’s solidly bolted down to the instrument. But it is well-built and handsome!

Yah, I'm not sure what that category is called - an adjustable height 2-post bridge, or something like that. :)

:) Thanks! I consider myself more of a designer/conceptualizer than a luthier. I get by with building and continue to learn more with every project, but I have such admiration for luthiers like Bruce Johnson and Dan Ransom here in SF who makes necks for me that I would never dare call myself a luthier. But having said that, that is the beauty of Luthiers Corner here on tb - it's a very collaborative and supportive platform and I thank you all for your participation! :thumbsup:

:) Thanks Steve! For sure - I first considered doing a Devil-bass clone at the same time Nex started her Devil-bass, so I shelved it until later. It's later now! :)

Got the Honduran mahogany slab - and s beautiful single piece of wood it is. Had it plained to 1.25" and it now weighs 7lbs/7oz, a very nice weight. (forgot to weigh it before plaining) The neck weighs 2lbs/9oz. Began by cutting it out and routing the neck pocket. Did some further re-design to slim the profile and move it away from being a clone of a Devil Bass. It will still allude to one, but be unique unto its own. Lots of shaping and honing will be incorporated as my next steps. Decided to go with one Novak Darkstar pu in my sweet-spot and one stacked V/T control.

So it's a process, a step-by-step process. Once the outline is rough-cut out, next step was getting the edges smooth and the curves flowing. Harder than it sounds really - I do it all by sight. Each sweeping curve/bend needs to look correct, and be tight/crisp. Next step is the edge bevels front and back. That is why getting the 'outline' to be precise is so important - it provides the guide for the bevels. It will be variable - from moderate to deep depending on where it is located. And there will also be a "belly bevel" and the neck platform will be sculpted. The goal is ergo for a comfortable player interface in every way, joining the four columns of a successful bass;

* looks good -
* feels/balances good (including light in weight) -
* plays good -
* sounds good.
