Diamond bass comp - tone effect question

I'm probably demonstrating my ignorance regarding the concept of frequencies, tilt EQ, etc., but something about the tone effect knob on my Diamond Bass Comp Jr. just doesn't seem right to me.

Simply put, when I flick the switch from 900hz to 250hz, the tone seems to get far "brighter" with a higher mid/treble sound. This also seems to add a tremendous amount of noise. The "fatter" and somewhat warmer tones seems to occur when the center point is at 900. The pedal is much more quiet at this setting as well. For some reason, I thought that this would be the opposite where the 250 would be the fatter/warmer center point.

Again, I probably just don't understand how this concept works (or if the way I worded this query makes any sense at all).

Just in case this this matters to anyone, I'm running this in the beginning of my signal chain and it's powered at 18v.

Thanks, everyone.

Thank you. I looked over that thread several times before posting my original question, but I must admit, I found it difficult to fully understand... or at least my understanding of the EQ plots simply didn't correspond with what I was hearing. At 12 o'clock (at least on my pedal), switching to 250hz seems to enhance the noise coupled with a treble-like hiss. The overall tone shift when turning the knob in either direction is far "brighter"/ less deep when 250hz is in the center than the corresponding settings when the center is 900hz. I thought it should be the other way around. I wondered if maybe the switch was wired backwards, but again, I could just have this all wrong.

might be that your EQ circuit is defective. With the EQ knob centered at 12 noon, I hear very slight difference when switching between 900 and 250hz. And no noise at all, though I use a fairly moderate amount of compression (threshold around 11 o'clock). Would be nice if there was a switch to completely remove the EQ from the signal path, like on the Squeezebox.

Just tried now using headphones. No hiss, dead silent.
I could not hear any significant difference with the EQ knob centered at noon between the switch in 250Hz or 900Hz positions.

Before noon, 250Hz is deeper than 900Hz however it's also quieter which may give the wrong impression that 900Hz is deeper.
Similarly after noon, 900Hz is brighter than 250Hz however it's also quieter which may give the wrong impression that 250Hz is brighter.

To me it feels that 250Hz is bass or high-mid while 900Hz is low-mid or high.

Hope it makes sense...

Thanks for your input. I'll have to check again later this evening, but my experience was the direct opposite of what you described.... it certainly wasn't quieter on 250Hz. Your description will be very helpful as a level of comparison, so again, thank you so much for that.

As for the internal EQ bypass switch I mentioned in the previous post, after what I've read from other sites, that was only available in the larger version, not the Jr. Oh well.
