there's a lesser quality video of lovgren and haake doing one of those jams where there is a an actual improvised solo. it's kind of funny because when he gets ready for his solo he bends down to put his pick on the floor.

Excuse me for bumping an older thread, but last time I checked he was using an EBS Fafner head with the matching 810 (or two) and EBS pedals. He also uses the Vetta II head, POD Pro, and some the FBV pedalboard.

For anyone wondering, I last read he owned 10 Warwicks, but he may have sold some, or just bought more...

ive heard that tone out of an mxr m-80. to the best of my knowledge (as a HUGE meshuggah fan), as far as effects go, he uses a few ebs pedals and a line 6 pod pro. his distorted tone is very similar to that of the guitarists, who use line 6 vetta heads live and pod pros in the studio

and to answer the question on their tuning, on their first albums (chaosphere and before), the guitarists used 7-string guitars, tuned to Eb standard with a low Bb, and the bassist used a 5-string in the same tuning. on their later albums (nothing and after), the guitarists used 8-strings in the same tuning as before, but this time with a low F, at the same octave as the 1st fret low F on a standard-tuned bass. and since most of the songs they wrote became based around having that low F, their bassist switched from Bb standard to drop Bb, or Bb-F-Bb-Eb-Ab

This sounds like he is using a stereo rig. This is quite popular these days among heavy/rock bassists.
Using both bass and guitar rigs. The trick is to setup the bass amp very boomy and dark. And then the guitar rig will provide distorted tones, probably with nice attack and presence, but very thin. So both actually complement eachothers. The mixing of box signals can be done by cabinet placement, and/or miking.
I think guys like John Myung and Jason Newested are using these type of configuration.

I bet Dick has a lot more than a pedal and bass for the sound. I know he uses some kind line6 head, guitar amps (running dirty), and mesa bass amps.
But, if you want the job done and done it cheap, get ar RB Warwick Corvette Classic, or other maple bass, run it through TurboRat with humphrey and transistor mod, blend it with clean and run into GK amp. Cut you hi mids a bit, boost low mids and bass slightly, and a bit highs. Sounds very close, and cuts the mix into pieces.

Absolutely! (I tune to low G myself, a semitone up from F#.) However, I find that Dick's tone and tuning works perfectly with Meshuggah the way it is, and his grinding, overdriven bass is an important part of their sound (to me, anyway). I'm not sure that it would sound equally great an octave down.

It's not inconceivable, but that's gonna be around 20Hz, which is usually considered to be right on the threshold of human hearing. You won't hear the fundamental note as a tone, you'll just hear the overtones. Which may still sound cool, but that's probably why he doesn't do it.

It's the Vetta II, tweaked out, into the EBS. The MEC's factor in pretty big tonewise, that Jazz on steroids thing. I'm trying a similar thing with Nordstrands in a Czech Spector 5 I have, Vetta I thru a MPulse 600. Previously did a dual thing with using a Boogie DC5 clean with a Metal Zone thru a Marshall 4x12 with Vintage 30's. You really have to back the low end off and not go TOO loud, the speakers won't be able to handle it. Dual input into a SWR Bass 750 with a Goliath 6x10 and Son Of Bertha 1x15 (that head will run at 2 ohms all day, ain't skeered). I know, a lot of **** to haul around for a "tone", but we're odd that way, aren't we? Gear Gear Gear
