Did anyone ever order something from eBay from Japan?

Never any basses. Some discontinued good condition and NOS bike components.

The good condition ones were so well photographed that there were no surprises beyond how ludicrously quickly they & the NOS ones arrived at my door.

I bought my Aria Pro II SB-700 from an eBay Japan seller. Price was fair. Shipping was quick. Item was exactly as described. Smooth transaction all around.

THIS. The biggest issue with shipping from Japan for us lads north of the border. For any Canadians out here, you're most likely going to have to deal with either FedEx or DHL, one charges you customs the fee AFTER you get the item, the other extorts you with your purchased item UNTIL you pay the customs.

Could always have it delivered to a US mailbox service? That could be the workaround, which I might end up doing, might introduce more fees in getting it over though...

that could work, however IME even when buying items from US sellers on Ebay I got slapped with a extra customs fee on stop of shipping

I bought a used Marshall 8x10 cab (VBA810). Shipped to my door within a week for $1000, free shipping. I was shocked and impressed. It arrived in perfect shape. Shipping alone must have cost close to $1000???

I've ordered several vintage instruments from eBay Japan dealers, always very successfully. Didn't necessarily get the lowest price, but that matters a bit less when what you're after is rare...

Last two bass I got (Tune 5 string and Stingray EX) were from Ikebe Music. You can contact them directly on their website and it is WAYYY cheaper than their Reverb or Ebay store. Delivered in 3 days for both via FedEx, no duties.

Epiphone Les Paul bass. It was exactly as described and was not delayed arriving. Just so expensive.

I bought a bass from a broker on eBay a week or so ago who gave me a better price than the store that actually had it

Other than a slight communication/language barrier issue I could have avoided by asking for clarification before I bought, the bass was accurately described, was packed securely enough to be towed across the Pacific, and was shipped within thew stated time frame, arriving with no added drama or taxes.

I'd definitely do it again if I see anything else that looks appealing.

Shipping costs are getting up there, though.
