Did anyone sell their first ever bass?

I sold my Ibanez SR400, a gift from a family friend. I used it a lot and practiced everything I learned on it. I also took good care of it, but I realized the bass' pickups and preamps weren't what I wanted from my playing. I preferred a lot of tone with less wall-shaking bass, but all the configurations I played with didn't cut it for me, so I sold it and bought a Fender jazz bass Standard, which remains my primary to this day.

I visited my local music store where I sold it to and I saw it hanging there on a wall stand and I played it again for nostalgia. A week later, it was gone. I felt a sense of regret and sadness...

Did anyone have this experience? I mean, better a music store where they care for used instruments than some crappy pawn shop..

First bass was a Peavey Milestone III in translucent blue.

Honestly, probably the best first bass I could have ever asked for. Thin neck, decent pickups, and held up through my atrocious bass playing.

I just sold it last month for $100 to a seemingly good guy on craigslist. It was hard to let go, but I have two other basses that meet my needs....so this one was taking up space. I'm still finishing up college, have a wife and son, and live in a small house so the decision to move on had to be made.

Yes. I bought a no-name, P-bass copy in a pawn shop in 1989 and sold it a year later to a friend. It was ok, but I had zero sentimental attachment to it and wanted something better.

I began as a guitar player rather than a bass player. I have learned my lesson when it comes to first instruments because of that. I still have the first bass I bought (Washburn XB-500) and I have no intentions to rid myself of it.

My first guitar was a Squier Duo-Sonic and I really regret selling it. It was such a neat guitar. In the end it's just an instrument, but it was the first, y'know?

Yeah, I sold my first bass. It was a crappy Asian 1950s-P knockoff that I bought for $200 bucks or so when I was 14 in 1971. Hanging next to it in the store at the time was a used Hofner violin bass that I could have bought for the same money. I chose poorly.

Yep, p-bass copy with yellow striped tape like Stryper all over it. I had bought it and a 30 watt amp from my cousin for probably 75 dollars. I can't remember if I traded it in for money off my next bass (a fantastic Peavey Dyna I wish I'd never sold, years later), but I didn't have it for very long. It was short scaled and pretty twangy for a 'metal' bass

I sold my Hohner P/J bass that I had bought new 20 years prior. I sold it cheaply to a guy who was buying it for a 10 year old nephew.
I felt good it was going to a budding musician, and I kept photos of it for posterity.
No regrets.

i've sold every bass I used in the past. A Hondo in 1986, used a Peavey T40 for 2 years, and had a Gibson Grabber G3. Sold them all. Now I play an Ibanez SR300FM. I guess one thing I am not is a hoarder. If I'm not using something, its getting sold.

Nope. First bass was an early 70s J and it was stolen

Yes, I unfortunately sold my first two basses, and I kick myself every time I think about it.

The first was a Gibson EB copy in Pelham Blue, set neck, VERY nice copy, can't remember the brand but it was solid, great player and tone. I literally learned to play on that thing.

The second was a '76 Fender Precision in walnut (brown), maple board.

So sad, I was so young and stupid.

And my wife wonders why I never sell my gear, I just keep acquiring it. After 38 years as a musician on various levels, I've got a lot of stuff, but I'm very reluctant to part with any of it.

I let a friend use it and I never got it back. Actually, he sort of trashed it. It was a cheapo P bass copy. I can't remember the name, but it had a Jackson style head and ridiculously high action.

Yes. A used Peavey T-40 I bought in 1980 and never really learned how to play. Didn't pick up bass in earnest until 20 years later.

Same story as a lot of people here.
My first one was a P-bass knock off, my dad said it was a Kramer but it didn't have a logo or serial number. I still have it in my closet because it isn't worth anything to anyone except me.

Though it's been stolen & recovered - AND pawned on 3 occasions during hard times,.... I still have my first - since 1978

My first bass was stolen, it was a short scale mach 1 (I don't think it had any association with the Aria mach1 basses) black with a P pickup. Good bass to learn on. Kinda wish I had it, or one like it now.(in fact, if anyone knows of one of these for sale I would be very interested. Like I said, black, black neck rw board, 4 in line pointy headstock said mach1 in gold letters. The body was small with short horns and a P pickup)
I saved up all my paper route money and bought a brand new Washburn MB20 in Pacific Rain Blue. It was kind of a mottled, metallic finish, very 80s as was the pointy body and headstock. I held on to it for years but finally traded it up for another bass... Wish I still had her too...

My first bass was a parts P bass owned by Dale Peters of the James Gang.
After replacing almost every part on it, I realized that P basses weren't for me, no matter who owned it before me or what parts were on it.
I sold it years later and didn't regret it.

My first bass was a MIJ Vox PBass copy. I decided to make a swirl pattern using glow in the dark paint on the entire front of the bass. Dear lord the dumb things we do as teenagers...Oh, I still have it )

I sold my Squier Standard Jazz Bass about a year after receiving it for my 18th birthday because the long-scale neck was uncomfortable.
I got a Squier VM Mustang Bass, which ended up being too short (but that's another story for another thread)

In 1985 I bought a brand new Yamaha BB300...candy apple red. Loved it. Months later I wound up in some money trouble and pawned it. The date came due and I was still short so I had this hippie couple I was jamming with get it out for me and I'd pay them for it later. By the time I got the money for them they had gone to a Rudy Sarzo bass clinic and had him sign it. Then they put it in a display case and wouldn't let me have it back. I'm all like "it's just a guy riding 8th notes in hair bands!"...but never got it back.
Soon after I bought a black one from a pawn shop for $150 and played it exclusively all the way up until 2011. It has since been converted into a five-stringed dual humbucker EBMM knockoff.
