Did I really say that??

When I was a cocky young hotshot (I thought so, anyway), I had a terrible case of foot-in-mouth disease. One shining example: I happened to meet world-famous Broadway star John Raitt. Yes, Bonnie Raitt's father. During our brief conversation, I managed to drop the remark that "Bonnie's always been one of my fantasy girls".

Why, mouth, why?? No father wants to hear that! If I'd thought for two seconds... But of course, if you're thinking before you speak, you don't have foot-in-mouth disease, do ya. Took me nearly forever to learn that.

Well, I THINK I've learned... My wife's opinion may differ...

I used to drink. Root cause of a lot of my actions in life I regret. I’ve always had a decent filter, my mom always said if you can’t say something nice don’t say anything at all. Too much alcohol would throw that out the window.

Have you ever said something you regretted later?

I would start with myself, however, I have such a problem in this particular area it's like, I wouldn't even know where to begin. I've said things that, if someone else were to say the same thing a few weeks later I would be really annoyed by their comments. All I can say is that those who might have been most hurt were never the people I intended to hurt.

Please share if you can identify with this. No need to go into detail, but I would like to know that I am not alone in this subject.

All of us do it. All of us have done it.

We all need to learn and reflect on our words as we grow.

All the time. Even yoday, at age 61, I still remember cringe-worthy things I said 45 years ago in high school. And other things I said a few days ago.

Perhaps I have a leaning disability here as, on occasion, I haven't seemed to learn to think things through before speaking out loud. ;)
