I've had a few delays so let me weigh in here.
If you're wanting Edge type delays you need to to get that sort of multi tap delay or one of the more powerful digital pedals.
Currently I've got the EHX SMM/H the Subdecay Echobox and the Subdecay Echobox proto, but I've had the DD-3, DD-20, Aria AD-10, Digitech PDS2000, Line 6 Echo Park and one of those old Dod analog delays
They are all different and they all have different tonal charactaristics I my self prefer that more analog tone to it and just couldn't get on with either of the Boss pedals the DD-3 is just so generic while the DD-20 is a power house and my guitarist still uses one it to me completely lacks mojo and the only way to get any funky oscilation out of it is with the warp feature and there is no pitch shifting with the time knob.
Echo park is good and very analog sounding if you want it to be with the tap tempo but it's hard to find one that doesn't hum and they are big and heavy and the knobs are easy to snap, it just sort of falls to the middle of the road.
Now the SMMH is a hella fun pedal lots of features and modes and great with the tap tempo which is a near must for playing live with a band unless you just want to add depth to your sound, the main fall of the SMMH is switching between presets and TBH I'm mainly using it as a looper due to all the options to post process your sound.
The Echobox from Subdecay to me is the best delay I've tried if it had tap tempo it would be the best, toneally it's just right for bass, it's doesn't hum, it does trails which even the mighty SMMH doesn't, you can pitch shift I can get mine to squeal like a piggy
for oscilation, the modulation can do full on pitch vibrato I've just sold my Analogman chorus pedal because I get nicer sounds out of the echobox on a minimum delay setting.
I've heard good and bad things about the disaster transport I know there was an issue with a volume drop that has now been fixed but bare this in mind when buying used.
Some people say I have a bias towards Subdecay but personally I feel I have a bias for the best and currently that is Subdecay for alot of things just wait till I get my Prometheus in 2-3 weeks
