"Different" P basses?

Whoa! That's awesome! I've been wanting to build a P/MM bass for a while. How well do the pickups match up in volume? That's probably one heck of a versatile bass, I would think.
If you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost you?
Thanks again. The pickups are pretty close in volume, but of course, the bridge pickup is always a little less because the string excursion is. The OBP-3 is an excellent pre and the blend will give you whatever you want.
I accumulated all the parts across several years. I would say that the entire thing, including pro assembly/wiring, was somewhere just south of $2K, but I didn't feel it as such since it took so long to get the pieces. IMO it is certainly worth every nickel - it's a real joy to play and is pretty easy on the eyes.:D

I have another P-Bass (Builder unknown) with Mahagony Body, one-piece Maple neck (tele-style) and DiMarzio PU. Imho Mahagony is a nice alternative to the standard body-woods.

My favorite P-style bass is the Yamaha Attitude though, if it just wouldn´t be so neck-heavy.

If I was not almost paralyzed with back spasms at the moment, I would still miss this one. One heavy bass but it got some great sounds. Heck, I still do miss it, except that you really don't want to listen to me try to play fretless.

Wow, the J/P/J configuration looks better than I thought it would. I've heard some horror stories of basses with too many pickups tempering with the ability of the strings to ring, is there any truth in them?

That's really a nice looking P-Bass. I love natural finishes.

Thanks. It took me quite a while to decide wheter to let Warmoth paint it transparant or to aply the oil/wax finish by myself (which was more work than I expected). But now I´m very pleased with the natural look.

@ phxlbrmpf

Imho the influence is very subtle and it depends on the PU´s whether the strings are damped or not. The DiMarzios have pretty strong magnets but i don´t have the impression that they degrade the sound.

Otoh I didn´t intend to create an bass with super-detailed, airy sound. I wanted a meaty, full-bodied sound and that´s what it delivers.

@ Sufenta

:D Well, Warmoth does Pickup routing for MM-basses as well (like on bassclef112´s Dinky P, which looks stunning) and for far less than your first born. Btw, they are very helpful and fast responding. Shipping ist extremly fast too.

I ordered a neck from Warmoth and Jay responds to my e-mails within about five minutes of mine being sent and he's answered every question I could think of asking.

They also originally said my neck would take 6 to 8 weeks...but I should have it sometime this week (4 1/2 weeks).

Here's my custom Jon Hill bass. Alder body, FMT.

Jackson pups, passive array. The P pup is reversed ala Sklar/Prestia. Remarkably punchy and clear sounding, all freqs well represented. Very quiet at all settings.
