Digital mixers ... can anyone compare quality ?

Curious, is there something about the Yamaha product that is significantly better than the others ... QSC, Soundcraft, Behringer ?

Quality

And FWIW , Yamaha is one of the only 2 companies who writes its own OS (not Windows based) and develop/do their own chips "In house"

ok, fair enough .. but can you articulate this a bit more ? How is the quality reflected .. better pre's, better control surface ? better something ?

as far as their proprietary OS and chips, I don't have any reference point on that as it relates to PA gear. I was in tech for 40 years and "in house" did not always mean better ... just closed systems that locked users into the maker. I'm not trying to be negative, just reflecting on my own exposure to in house developed systems and hardware. They could be the best in the marketplace, I don't know. Is Yamaha an industry standard from anyone's perspective ? ... again an honest question from a relative newb to the PA market.

thanks

Not the X series. The full size X32 is such a standard of the industry that I a customer does not spec another mixer, they get an X32 by default.
What industry are you working in ?
Not in my world.....
working bands in bars and clubs, smaller touring bands bringing their own IEM-split rigs? as far as i can tell X-stuff is everywhere in that market and doing quite well.

Yes , I can see that it's doing well in smaller circuits but to to state that it's a "standard" is a very long shot.
It's already old and has been surpassed by other products feature wise.

The OP was asking about something of better quality ...... I would suggest everything before any Behringer product when asked about quality , wouldn't you ?

Quality and cheaper prices usually don't go well together IME
I'm too poor to be cheap.

And it's a Behringer.......
surpassed nah I disagree strongly and for local venues the x32 system is pretty much all I've seen lately. I feel the other systems you feel surpass it lack in expandability no expansion cards p16 port or as many effects or processing on board and cost nearly double to get in the same ball park. I could be mistaken but from where I'm sitting I dont see it can you give me some examples?

Behringer have aquired midas
Everyone at Talk Bass should stop asking about other products and just ask about what Behringer flavor they should buy.

A Precision Bass with that ?

:meh:
I appologize if my post was sounded dismissive my original intent was asking how the behringer could be surpassed I see i didnt word things right as im abit over tired. I wasn't trying to dismiss that other products could surpass it I just didn't see it atm without costing twice as much sadly or lacking some of its key features. Do you have any examples of mixers you rec over it in a similar price and spec? I am all for improvements. I just dont want to spend more then need be if I can help it I'm uber broke. My x18 Mixer was only $200 So for me to upgrade would be a big investment. I'm using this currently with 6 of the p16m mixers, the p16d distribution and our iems for my bands wireless and iem rack. We need 6 stereo iem feeds and about 10 outputs for drums all of our backing tracks and click are ran thru the usb port via an ipad with cubasis2. I don't know of any other setup I can really do all that with under $2k'ish price because most Mixers I've seen only have 8 or 16 outs and no independant monitor system onboard. I'm probably in different position to most users as I already own the distribution and p16 mixers and I use the usb expansion slot for our backing tracks. If you got some good mixers for me to check out I'm all ears.

I switched over to an X32 board at my venue now that about 30% of the bands coming in have an X32 mix on a thumb drive. Gives me channels assigns, a rough mix, and their effects. Saves me about 40 minutes.
If they are using IEM's it gives me their monitor mix too.

Ethereal Thorn- Behringer bought Midas (and TC), years ago.
Behringer is the first manufacturer to sell 100,000 digital mixers, AND, with only one major revision (an output buss ran too close to a power supply) in it's history.

Quality small /unexpensive mixers?
Yamaha TF1

I personaly avoid Behringer products in general like the plague in medieval times , for that reason : quality

The new digital surfaces by Behringer are not your father’s EuroDesk, by any stretch. In fact it surprises a lot of folks to learn that the X32 by Behringer and the M32 by Midas share around 85% of its internal components and are built on side-by-side assembly lines under the same roof of the factory (in China, admittedly) owned by Music Tribe.

Not to throw water on the Yamaha TF series. It’s an excellent line of small mixers and personally, I wish Yamaha had brought out the TF line a few years earlier.

I love it when there’s a problem with one of these mixers and the response depends on the brand. If it’s a Midas or a Yamaha product, you hear “well, no one is perfect”, but with a Behringer product, you hear “typical junk”.

Oh, well, it’s nice to be experienced and intelligent enough to know what works or doesn’t and not costing me a fortune for it.

Oh, now, don’t get your nose out if joint because all the readers didn’t fall at your feet in agreement with your assertions. I agree with the assessment of the TF products. My former full-time and now part-time job is with a production house that’s mostly Yamaha-equipped with Yamaha. PM5Ds, CL5s, older M7CLs are great consoles. We have Avid consoles because they make money, not because we like them.

The part where you are insinuating that the X line of devices by Behringer is a bad, low quality product is misleading and allowing a personal prejudice to be presented as fact. Bad move, considering what the actual facts and numbers are.

Okay, let’s be fair and mention that all of the current crop of compact surfaces allow scene management (store, recall, transfer, etc) and remote control with capabilities for multiple connections by musos to manage their own mix.

And I’ll also mention that I can take any of those products (even the Presonus, which I truly despise, but have a harder time with that judgement because of Presonus’ efforts to improve it) and get the job done in fine fashion. At the end of the day, I’m adult enough to work with the cards I’m dealt, and not worry about the cards I wish I had.

So true.. about the only small digital console brand I haven't worked with over the last 18+ months has been Yamaha. I've run digital from A&H, Mackie, Behringer, Midas, QSC and Soundcraft. The principles are the same on all.. just differing workflow.

Yamaha seems to be popular in bigger installations here, other wise x32s are everywhere, I started on a producer, quickly realized for what I do a rack was better, I have about 100 gigs on my rack now with no issues, been getting lots compliments on the sound lately, which is great as I am an amateur who has really just learned this stuff in the last few years via questions here, you tube, and asking questions anytime I am around a pro.

Not a fan of the X sound (brittle or harsh) to my ear. A&ah and Soundcraft are truly better sounding TOO ME. yMMV and all that. The X workflow seemed stranger than most and the stock app I found less than intuitive. Yeah, I made it work...

The X series, like my SI boards is not getting younger. If I were investing in a console today, it would probably be the Yamaha TF. Given I upgraded my SI rig last winter. I’ll accumulate some ROI before I even think about it...

I have Kalimba (Earth Wind and Fire Tribute) in a couple of weeks. I’ll get L&R from their X racks and step away...
