"Digitalizer"

Hi all! A question: I'd like to record ambient stuff (bass, pedals, amp). I was looking for digital recorders (zoom, etc) but, they told me that if I want a clean signal without ambient rumors, hiss, etc. there are things called "digitalizer" or something similar, it appears like an audio interface: a small box with input jacks and usb, to connect directly a USB pen to store the recording, without using PC if you don't want, softwares and other things. You plug your amp (slave out of the head) into this box and you play. Anybody knows the name or models, please?

Digital conversion is just one step in the process:
mic or DI -> preamp -> analog to digital converter -> storage -> digital to analog converter -> speakers -> ears

Whether you're recording on a computer via an interface, or a digital field recorder makes no difference. They all use the same components, it's just that one involves a computer and the other doesn't. The end result is the same with respect to the capture.

Yes, I'm looking for one of them because I don't want to use pc, softwares, etc, if possible...they told me I could plug the amp into one of these things and they record, storing in usb or another device attached to the converter

The Zoom recorders work as standalone units, recording to a sd card and as interfaces, too. A disadvantage is, that you can't simply put your bass into one of them. They don't have a HZ input for a guitar or a bass like even many cheap interfaces have. So you need either a DI Box or a line out from a bass amp.

At the moment I'm in stand-by...I'm considering ti use mic for the amp--> mixer (behringer 2 xlr, very simple)--> zoom. I tend to use a lot of fuzzes and overdrives, all the times that I tried with a DI or an amp line out, the sound was terrible

Zoom recorders like the H5 and H6 have much much better mic-preamps than the cheap Behringer mixers. No comparison. Not as good as in the F4 and F8, not as good as the Mix-Pres from Sounddevices but way better than the cheap Behringer mixers.
