Digitech Bass Synth Wah

Hi all, I recently purchased a Digitech Bass Synth Wah pedal and am pretty happy with it. one of my biggest grievances with it is the filter, i enjoy the sounds but the filter only goes up where as i want it to send the frequencies up to the heavens and then come all the way back down so my question is can you control the filter by linking it to an expression pedal?

cheers

The Digitech doesn't have an expression pedal input. How do you propose to link it to an expression pedal?

If you want a filter that's controlled by an expression pedal, that's basically a bass wah. There's an increasing number of bass wahs on the market, tons of stuff to choose from if you look around.

You were clear enough-- Mark Olson is correct: The Digitech BSW does not have an expression pedal input, therefor can not be controlled by one. Effects need a dedicated control input for expression pedal use, you can't plug into a regular audio jack and get any functionality(with the vast majority of effects anyway. Some effects can take a CV or an audio signal as a modulator, but none share a main audio input as the expression input). Expression inputs in bass/guitar effects use the same 1/4" jacks as audio inputs, but basically are routed to different parts of the pedal internally.

You might try the Boss SYB5 or behringer copy of it if you want a synth pedal with an expression input, where you can control the filter manually with an expression pedal and still have the built in synth sounds underneath, though the SYB's a better 'synth' sound, the tracking isn't near as good,

It sounds to me like the OP wasn't really stuck on using an expression pedal - simply that he wanted to find a solution to get the sound he wants out of his BSW...

I'm not really clear on what you're looking for though - did you try mode 4? That does what your post reads like you're trying to achieve.

mode 4 being synth 2?
No i havn't tried it yet i've just been playing with the filter (mode 5) really. ill give it a go. ill try and be a little clearer. think the city of delusion bridge (muse), how chris wolstenholme sends his filter (or what i'm assuming is a filter) up and down. i'm looking for something like that. but the filter on the BSW only goes up.

and thanks for finding the COD thread rr5025.

mode 4 being synth 2?

Yup.

Ah, I see - are you talking about the breakdown at around 2:18, with just the bass doing the rising cutoff thang? Possibly you could get close by playing with the sensitivity, and gradually digging in harder as you go. Or possibly putting a volume pedal in front, with the sensitivity on the BSW set fairly high, to see how that works.

I used to use that sort of effect all the time with my old Digitech BP8 - with something like a Boss GT-10B I'd assign the expression pedal to the cutoff, and do a sawtooth synth with a moderate amount of filter and resonance.
