Digitechrep: Bass Whammy shipping yet?

I got mine friday - and I'm sending it back tomorrow!

Don't get me wrong, it's a brilliant pedal, miles better than my Whammy 4 in every department, lets loads of bass tone through. I didn't realise that some settings on the Whammy 4 would not be available on the Bass Whammy. These settings are used in riffs in songs as part of my band's set, and I can't do without them.

It's my own fault for not researching the pedal. Undecided now whether to get a Whammy 5 or a Line 6M5 with expression pedal. Gutted after the wait!

Yes, the Bass Whammy has different intervals than the Whammy IV. It is not just different intervals though, it is also different treadle behavior. If you look at this list you can see that the heel/toe treadle positions are quite a bit different from the Whammy IV or the V, the Bass Whammy is specifically tailored for bass.

DigiTechRep: I've never quite understood why the Whammy pedals have a select number of intervals to choose from. Wouldn't it make more sense for the user to be able to choose? A simple LED display with the number (plus or minus 1-24) would suffice. Does the Whammy have specific programming to get each interval sounding a particular way?

Also: if Dive Bomb is an option (3 octaves down), why is 3 octaves up not available?

Good questions, our first harmonizer the IPS33-B taught us a lot about usability. It did exactly as you describe and while powerful, it was quite complex. We found that guitarists and bassists ended-up using only a handful of intervals, so the Whammy was meant to be an easy way to get those most-used intervals. They key to the Whammy is its simplicity and ease of use. Making it more complicated would cause it to lose one of the major things that makes it cool.

Also: if Dive Bomb is an option (3 octaves down), why is 3 octaves up not available?

Because we think it sounds terrible.

Come on, give the digitech peeps a break. They shipped them. Once it leaves their place I'm sure it's quite out of their hands. I think the rep has done quite a fine job relaying info as it comes to him. He didn't even have to do that. It's obvious the shipping process has had it's bumps. Again, not much anyone could do about it. Let's just hope SW's last release date of the 9th sticks. If it doesn't I'll be disappointed for sure. It's coming though, we know that much. And it'll be very soon. I can feel it!!
