D-Bird is long scale, and last I heard Sheldon wants to do a 5 string, and is working on the design. Only the Super P/J models are medium scale.what about 4-string medium scales like the dbird?

The website is very informative: Invalid Link RemovedWhat are the differences folks consider interesting between ABZ and AB1/2 ?

Plenty differences. Active (ABI & ABII) vs passive (ABZ). Wood choices (body, top, neck, fretboard). Semi-hollow (ABII) vs solid (AB1 & ABZ). To name a few.
That's what I've heard. I really enjoy hearing Sheldon talk about his design process, and how meticulous he is with getting everything right. Just glancing at a Dingwall proves that he really knows what he's doing! When I talked to Sheldon in Vancouver he mentioned a 5 string D bird posed quite a few design challenges
I haven't gone through the process of actually ordering out a Canadian Dingwall, so I'm not that familiar with how the details work out. From my understanding wood choices + the optional top are the difference between ABZ and AB1, and wood choices + semi-hollow are the difference between AB1 and AB2. I think ABZ is ash, AB1 is alder, and AB2 is walnut. Only AB1 and AB2 can have a top.Quite a few of those differences are customised out (apart from the semi-hollow). Mostly ash/alder and consequent weight then?
I'll PM you the 2018 price list. That should answer your questions .Are there many folks who put a non-standard top on an ABZ? I see a single quilted maple example in the gallery.
Uh-oh, I better start saving! Will this be Canadian?D-Bird is long scale, and last I heard Sheldon wants to do a 5 string, and is working on the design. Only the Super P/J models are medium scale.

I know most guys here go for the 5's for the low b string effect, but how are 4's in the fanned system? Still a noticeable difference in tone and tension?
If he does make a 5 string Dbird I will most certainly have to buy one.D-Bird is long scale, and last I heard Sheldon wants to do a 5 string, and is working on the design. Only the Super P/J models are medium scale.
Yep. The nickel strings. What are the factory strings that came on my NG2/4? Are they just a pack of the Dingwall 4's Long Scale?
