Dingwall Owners Club

I’ve been playing just the SJ for the last 3 days while my Z 6 is hanging on the wall staring at me.

Funny thing is it started after playing an American standard Jazz at l and m. Strung with some crazy slinky flubby strings.

It had such a different vibe compared to a normal rig of mine that I almost impulsively brought it home. The B was horrendous. But it had this mellow smoky jazz bar mojo to it. Then just before leaving I played a modern player with some different strings on it. Completely different bass.... which reinforced that the “mood” I was appreciating on the other jazz was mostly from the strings.

I went home and, although my J is of course brighter, I grabbed my J and was completely satisfied. I could change the strings if I wanted to but meh.

It’s funny thought how that basses mojo put me in a different mood.

I guess the point being is that I love my SJ. and I forget it from time to time as I get consumed with my longer scales but then I come back to it and I know that if I ever get rid of it it will be a grave mistake. I like to think of it as my retirement bass. It’s light and easy to play in comparison to the rest.

Of course I play a Z and then feel the same freakin way.....
Didn't you just buy that crazy gorgeous, black and white Z3 5-string, or was that someone else?

I did. Here is the family.
Each one brings something different to the table.

My family is small, but bountiful. :)

We are expecting, however. ;)

I'm the kind of person who doesn't need more than one bass, to be completely honest. I do however WANT an NG2 4-string. My ABHS completely blew me away from already extremely high expectations.

Yeah man. That thing is sweet. If I had a passive rig I would like that exact one.

I used to be a one bass guy and then...... things changed.

I went from my AB2 to all kinds of stuff for a while. Things really went sideways after landing my first Z3. The more Dingwall I had the more bass I wanted to play. Like obsession level. More so then ever before.

Really there is only 2 that I feel I could not live without at this point and 1 I don’t have yet. My fav is still the 6er and my incoming fretless will be the same bass only sans frets. That right there should cover everything.

I wasn’t sure I could graduate to 6 full time initially and now I wish every bass was a 6 for consistency.

I think the right 6er trade would pry the Z3 5 or the NG3 out of my hands but the SJ probably should just stay put.

Man... *eyes his AB 6er that doesn't get much playtime since the Prima showed up*

Oooh... are those black flatwounds on that top one, with the petrified-wood-style finish and black hardware? Looks great... where'd you find those? I just put flatwounds on my (sadly parallel-fretted) Alembic for the first time and I'm loving how they sound and feel.

No. I currently wish they were. They are DR black beauties but they do feel incredibly smooth(... yet kinda sticky at the same time) it’s currently strung with Dingwall nickels which I think are the best “fit” for the bass.

Side note the top is called camphor burl

Thanks a lovely bass and a lovely collection!!

Man...... that Prima!
Thank you. I love it all, though the blue one is never, ever played, so it might not be in my hands for long.

The Prima is truly something else. If I could swap my green AB for a Z 5 or 6, I would. Prefer a 6, but, a 5 is fine and I can add another dingwall 6 later (probably an NG 6). :D

Btw. I haven’t forgot about the strap we spoke about (what seems like forever ago).
I’m having a hard time finding time but that may change soon( fingers crossed). I’ll pm about that as things open up around the home front.

No worries. I totally forgot about that conversation, and it's only ringing a faint bell at the moment. Let's chat when you've got bandwidth, I'm in zero rush :).

Hah. I'd rather not lose my spot... :p

Ha. You won’t. End of November my schedule opens up and I hope between then and January to get 4 straps completed. That will include the both of you.

It’s crazy how time vanishes AND with these beauty Dingwalls in my presence and a strong desire to learn music and grow as a bass player it’s super hard to take time away from that.

I’m sorry guys..... my motto right now is slow and steady..... or at least just slow.....
