Seems like tightening the truss rod would fix that without having to switch strings...

I'll see how I feel about the nickel after a few weeks - they still have the new string zing but the real test will be when I've worn them in a bit.

The Nickels will maintain there qualities a lot longer then the SS strings. You will get 6X the life out of nickels vs SS. That said, the steels don't "die" in 3 weeks they just "calm down" as an example/

I personally like the steels brightness, especially in metal music but I have found I like the Nickels more so on my Jazz bass.

Give Payson a try for more options. Its worth the exploration. Great strings. The reduced core are a monster hit. I love the SS offering.......


Hmmmmmm! this just got me thinking.... The reduced core on the fretless?!?!?! Might have to try that out.

I officially have a date with Mo's Custom Shop come mid-march. C2-Fretless will have blue luminlay fretlines dots and side markers. He's also going to coat the fingerboard again (since he'll have to rip it up to work on it. I'd send it earlier but I have a gig that I really want to do as full fretless. It's going to be 'an acoustic night' with our band, two sets all our regular stuff translated into a down-home acoustic setting. I don't play upright, so I'll go fretless to fit in.

My personal experience is that Dingwall SS strings keep their brightness for a very long time, compared to other brands. I swapped strings on my ABHS in late July last year, and they still have a lot of zing to them. OTOH I wipe the strings down each time I play, and I never play before washing my hands.

I'm going to try the nickels as well to see if I like their tone better. Dingwall strings have the perfect tension for my personal taste. Tight enough to be able to dig in, but not so tight that they feel stiff.

Here’s a couple of pics showing the B crossing the nut. I have noticed some strings extend further than others but they all seem to work.

That's funny, I was picking up my NG2 Thurs night and we were talking about your phone call to him regarding the fretless. :thumbsup::)
