Dingwall Owners Club

It’s finally here! My custom spec AB2 on the left. It both confirms a type with the off the shelf AB2 I have on the right as well as being radically different enough not to be the same bass. I mean they both have a wenge fb.

wenge neck / maple neck (black headstock)
Wenge fb / wenge fb
Pearloid speedo / fancy wood speedo bars
3x / 2x
Redwood burl / maple burl
Natural / vintage burst
FDV / SF II
Glock / Darkglass

Both gorgeous. I would love to hear your thoughts on SFII vs. FDV :)

Up to you, but I’d try a Dingwall before going all in on a Z.
Right... I mean... who'd do THAT???
We’re all major fans here, but there are people who don’t like the design and sound of these basses. The Combustion models hold their value well and they’re easy to sell, so getting one to try and bond with for a while could be a “cheap” option.
This keeps bugging me... there is this Ferrari red NG-2 for $1600 in the Classifieds - has been sitting there for over two months. Am I missing something? Why isn't that one being picked up?
I understand that discussing pricing etc on things from the Classifieds is discouraged, but I wonder...

I've decided to sell my recently acquired Dingwall ABII 5. Some of you may recall that I had posted questions on here a couple of weeks ago regarding the fret buzz. It still has some fret buzz, so this fact would need to be understood before purchasing. There is nothing visually wrong with the bass. The truss rod turns in both directions and it looks to be in great condition. That said, I will be selling the bass “as is” condition.

I's consider a partial trade for a Z3 if anyone is looking at scaling down.

Anyway, I thought I’d see if anyone was interested before it’s up on the classifieds later today.

Just personal experience but I wanted my 4 string to be the D-ROC and reserved my Combustion and NG3 for 5 strings. The 4 strings seem to hang around a lot longer than 5 and 6’s which move very quickly.

I’ve been waiting for an update. I’m sorry to hear this thing still has issues.
Kind of a rough way to start your exploration into Dingwall territory. Sounds like it needs some adjusting from a master technician.

just a thought but perhaps you could send it off to someone like Mo who is quite familiar with dingwalls. It may be a not overly expensive expense to get it up to speed?

I think most people are looking for five-strings. Other than that, I don't know, but don't let it bug me.

Also... they only come in 34" and 35" - that likely won't work for a Dingwall, right?

(and... yeah, self-playing strings... I should consider those... can't be worse than what I can do...)

He's talking about his Super-P. They'd fit.

The Cobalts are intriguing. Also been considering some of the fancy tapewounds from La Bella.

I had a set of the labella black tapes that came on the BTB, and didn't love 'em. The gauges were a bit wonky and the 35" high C was so plinky it was unusable....it was something like an .043. I also supposedly have a custom set of their gold/white tapes on order from January from Fret Nation that seems to be lost in time and space. He took the order a ways back, I didn't hear anything for about a month then when I emailed for an update I got a short something about how they were back ordered and he'd emailed me and it was probably in my junk email (it wasn't). Haven't heard anything since.

I’m wondering if the shorter scale on the SP will help balance the tapes. I would probably get the white tapes as the description sounds more appealing than the black tapes.

I used to run Labella black tapes on a 34” scale bass and the tension was VERY low. Admittedly it was quite nice with it that low provided you played with a light touch. On a Super the sub-34” scale on the A, D and G strings might make them too low for many people. That’s just speculation on my part as I’ve not tried them on a Super. They were very cool strings on the bass I put them on and had a great broken-in tone that seemed to last forever.

That only happens when you play an Autograph song... It's a feature, not a bug. :D

Just messing with you. I actually used to like Autograph many years ago. Not sure what happened there. I'm sure someone will be along shortly with more info on Dingwall strings.

I happened to be playing 'All I'm Gonna take', a very mellow Autograph song, almost trance like, after he was singing 'My circuit breakers breakin, my sanity's at stake', "POP"...the string went. Frightened me.. I did pay extra for that feature too..
