I'm amazed that he and I do about 95% the exact same procedure. I don't know that I've ever seen anything that outlines pretty much the exact procedure I do when stringing. Though I don't adjust the intonation every time...I do just check it.

I never adjust the intonation in the same day, I do it at least 1 to 2 days after mounting the strings.

Right after you mount them, the intonation is pretty much messed up, I found that it takes a bit of time and playing to settle

I'm generally using the same string brand/gauges over and over. If installed correctly, I've never found that the intonation wanders or the relief changes. I check intonation just in case but rarely have to do anything with it unless my setup has changed (I've raised the saddles, provided more relief, etc.).

Pretty funny (only because it was just a string!). Kind of reminds me of when I was a bass tech for The Warning when they played a couple shows in NYC. The bassist, Alejandra had borrowed my USA Spector NS-4 for the shows. Anyway, about halfway through their set, they start playing a song with a chorus that goes "Break! Break!, just Break Apart!" So what happens during that song? The strap pin screw comes right out of the upper horn and there goes the strap! Luckily, she has great reflexes as she caught the bass and hardly missed a note. A well positioned drum stool that happened to be on the side of the stage allowed her to keep playing until the end of the song and she could switch basses. I (gulp) duct-taped up the bass for the 2nd show.

Same, I just check, if it shifts, I intonate, if not, I leave it, logic :laugh:

It's not supposed to be far off if the strings are the same indeed

I don't know, mine has a Wenge fretboard and neck, so I'm asking the question. I hate unfinished maple necks!

I really don't know what type of finish is on it. It does not have all that lacquer/glossy that a Fender jazz bass maple neck does, and it just can't be raw wood either. All I wanted was a light color maple neck on my new bass, and that was key for me to buy my Combustion. I got lucky and the nut width is not like the Jazz bass, and that was fantastic, as I like the widths of the Jackson I have which is like the width of the Dingwall. I have just big fingers, not plump or fat, just big.

it's a thin satin poly finish. It should just take a wipe to clean. Don't use any windex or other sprays... I use a damp paper towel, and if it's really dirty a little bit of mild soap with that. Rub it clean, and dry off immediately. No other stuff need be applied.

The truss rod turns in both directions and it looks to be in great condition. That said, I will be selling the bass “as is” condition.

I's consider a partial trade for a Z3 if anyone is looking at scaling down.

Well, it's official. I'm going all in with Dingwall! Selling my ABII 5 and a Spector Forte 5 (both in the classifieds) for this! I might also need to do a price check on one of my kidneys...
