Dingwall Owners Club

D'addario makes 'super long scale' sets and single strings which fit up to 38'', you could match an entire set of singles, might be $$$ though

I just checked a D'Addario super long string I had lying around (CB132SL). The silk starts about 0.5 cm before the nut so I'm assuming their SL line is too short for the low B (or A for my case).

I ordered a custom Newtone set, I hope I will get it soon.

I spotted what I think is my Super J on the Dingwall Instagram just now. Waiting for confirmation but all the specs look right.

On the D'Addario super long string set. I bought that from Sweetwater and put it on my Combustion and immediatly could tell those strings *seemed* harder to press down and *tighter* than the original Dingwalls that came off of it. I did not like them and took them right off and used the real deal Dingwalls strings. Is it all 'in my head', possibly, but it's back to what I call 'normal' now with the Dingwall strings. Then I took the bass completly apart and still she sits for my other general repairs.

I spotted a Dingwall Super J on the Dingwall Instagram page this morning and thought "boy that looks a lot like my custom order." A few minutes later I got a call from Chad Beeler at The Bass Shop saying it had arrived. I live less than a mile from the shop so I promptly finished all of my day job work tasks for the morning and hopped in the car. This thing absolutely kills. Exactly what I wanted. Took a little over 18 months to arrive from the date of the custom order. @Sheldon D. and his crew in Saskatoon absolutely nailed it on this one.

Specs:
Dingwall Super J
3X FDV pickups with individual series/parallel switches
Glockenklang 3-band preamp with active/passive bypass
Black hardware
Pearl white finish
Tort pickguard
Birdseye maple fretboard
Lightweight swamp ash body (just shy of 8 lbs on my scale)

That thing looks like a monster! Can't wait to hear you shredding away on it. Awesome!

Congrats! That looks fantastic!!

I'm a sucker for birdseye maple fretboards. The weight was a big deal for me. I have a Warmoth Jazz that I built which weighs almost the same as this bass. I was trying to get my Super J as close to the weight of the Jazz as I could and expected it to be slightly heavier. It ended up being so close that my scale can't tell a difference. The Dingwall feels slightly lighter to me, but I suspect it's just that the ergonomics are better giving me that impression.

Congratulations!

Do you guys order from Dingwall or your local music shop? What pickups and preamp would you recommend for a rock/blues/classic rock cover band? I am very attracted to the modern growl sound and not much of a traditionalist.

being in Van you’ll probably have to hit up L and M. I believe Dingwall has a stipulation that if there is a dealer local to you you must use the dealer. If you more then xxx Km’s away you can order direct. Maybe that’s an old
Policy but it rings a bell. Best to ask Dingwall direct for clarity.

you can’t go wrong with the glockenklang but if you like the modern stuff going on these days the Darkglass tone capsule is what all the cool kids use. (I’m not cool but I use it too).
Both are primo and very useful.
