Very helpful, thank you! I actually play an NG3 6 string right now, but I want to start planning a canadian build so I'm in the information-gathering stage.
I gig with an ABZ5 weekly and it has a Glockenklang preamp. I have just recently found the potential in my series pickup position, and i don’t feel the need to use the EQ adjustments (though I do think that pickup position screams for a decent cut around 500, and the glock’s mid control is at 550, I just do it on my pedalboard).
Like you, I am now finding the passive version of that pickup setting to have the exact characteristics you described. There’s
a slight increase in treble presence when I engage the preamp, but no volume increase which I understand is something people live above a good preamp.
I have never played an NG but I am sure your transition will be seamless.
You will love the Wenge neck.
I was just diggin into the newest shop tour vids Sheldon put out and I stumbled upon my friends shop tour from aways back.
Figured some of the crowd here might appreciate a little tour from the past.
Mike made this cool vid which Sheldon shows just how cool he is letting this young buck come in and spend some time on an in depth walkthrough of the shop. …. and then it gets a little “twin peaksie” at the end. Lol.
It was cool to find this and there’s some great opportunities to see the steps made in our basses…. At least the older ones in the group.(I’m sure a few things have changed since)
Every time I hang out with Mike I learn something from him as he hasn’t let his passion for bass down since making this vid.
Pretty dang cool.

Thanks man! Sheldon was nice enough to come in on a day off to show me around the shop. Also, my bass needed a little tweak and he did that for me as well. I did my best to ask interesting questions. Also, the music at the end was chosen because it was the only stuff I had in my computer that wasn’t copyrighted!
Cross your fingers for Mark/Bass Direct and hope the Dingwall ABZ 4 3X is found soon. He went ahead and refunded me so I am out of the situation after 5 weeks. It still appears as if the bass was picked up from them by a courier (InterParcel) and never made it through customs and thus never into UPS International's possession.
I am looking forward to making a different Dingwall purchase announcement but I think I will wait until I have the bass in my possession before doing so!

I know this has been asked before. But any news if Daddario made any changes to their Super Long Scale strings, so they would actually fit Dingwall's 37 inch scale? I know even Nolly uses Daddario lately, so it would be pretty weird if they cant make them fit.
I have one of the older SJ5's...(got it in 2012), that has the more traditional-ish pickguard and metal plate for the vol/tone controls/preamp.
Question, is that metal plate the same size/orientation as the ones that Fender makes? i.e. would a run of the mill J replacement plate fit?
Reason I ask is I have considered going down a preamp swapping rabbit hole....as to my ears the treble on the Glockenklang is a little much at times/just looking for other options. I recently got a Spector Euro 5 with the Spector variant of the DG pre. Kinda digging that. Kevin Brubaker (who's shop is about 45 mins away) has a hot swap-able preamp module that could likely be retrofitted into the SJ5. My thinking is, if this is do-able, I'd have the Glockenklang mounted on one plate and the DG on another and be able to swap at will.
The question is would a traditional J preamp plate work...(or is the Dingwall size/shape/orientation unique) and would the DG tone capsule fit in the cavity?

Looks great! Just curious, was your NG like mine (4 6mm knobs and 1 1/4") or a different configuration?
@AB Nate have you listened to the new Archspire tracks yet? If so what did you think of the tones? The dirty slap tone on Bleed the Future was causing me certain types of faces last night haha
Yes, but you need the version with smaller holes. I replaced mine, but that's all I remember, it's been a few years...

Same configuration. I expect the D-Roc will be 2 6mm and one 1/4”, since its four-way pickup selector is also a Dingwall original part, like the NG3’s selector.
