Dingwall Owners Club

One other thing I found kind of fascinating, because I’ve never seen it mentioned anywhere, it appears that the middle pickup is wired in parallel, while the bridge and neck are in series. I find myself wondering if the Combustion models are similarly wired, or is that just on the Nolly basses.

You’re right. This is a recent change though. Pretty sure my NG3 (which came with the D-Bird rotary) has all three pickups in series, including the middle.

1 - Middle Solo
2 - Bridge & Middle in Parallel
3 - Bridge & Middle in Series
4 - Bridge & Neck in Parallel
5 - Neck Solo
6 - Bridge & Middle in Parallel/Series Neck

exactly the same as the “stock” switch Fretnation sells, except the middle in place of the bridge solo.
This is exactly what I got from Mo (in a different order). Please let me know if you have noise when using the neck pickup in series (on the switches) whether solo or parallel with the bridge. I play in front of a computer mostly but the one thing that has always bothered me is the noise with the neck pickup with the series switch up. With it in parallel it's gone.

You mean with series/parallel toggles? I don’t have those.

Agreed. What did you spec for your 6 way and by your comment I assume you have no issues with noise? Live or with a speaker cab I don't but into my DAW in front of my computer it's pretty bad.
  1. Neck Solo
  2. Middle solo
  3. All on per dingwall
  4. Jazz series
  5. Mm series
  6. Mm parallel

No pick up noise In any setting but if I get to much treble up on a preamp in my house I get some noise… on most any bass. Old shack. :(

Hello! Any Dingwall players who also use Darkglass gear, especially the X Ultra have issues taming harmonics when playing fingerstyle? If I play even a bit harder, especially on E and A strings I get these pinch harmonics. My action is not that low and playing softer is not really an option with the music style. I know that lowering the gain from the pedal helps a bit, but dont want to lower it too much.
It's much harder to keep that in check with a lot of drive. You should be muting each string at more than one point - the more contact you make the better. Rest (or "float") your right thumb on the lowest strings, use several fingers of your left hand... whatever is not actively used to play.
Another popular option (which you should only start using once your muting is on point) is adding a noise gate to your signal chain. I'd recommend something like the Decimator G-string which has a loop and uses the dry signal to trigger the gate on the processed signal.

Yes! It’s here and it’s mine ;) ABZ 5.

congrats Anton! Fatigue because of the new hand position may be due to incorrect strap lenght / bass angle. IME, Dingwalls need a different strap length and position on my body to be comfortable. Maybe experiment with that a bit. Also, I guess you are trying to follow the angle of the pickups (as do I) with your plucking. A friend of mine just ignores the angle and he sounds superb... I cant stand the different tensions so I pluck every string at a slightly different spot.

Thanks! It really feels better on the day two already :) and yes, I ignore the plucking angle and it still sounds great. I have yet to experiment with the strap length as I was surprised it plays better with the bass hanging quite low with a Dingwall.

Thanks for your advice about the strap length! I played with it for a while and found the sweet spot where my right hand feels just as good as with my previous basses and Bingo! It works! Thank You

Hah, did you pick that one up? I want a cello hipped Dingwall so badly. It's right behind a Dingwall with voodoo blade switching (which I know I'll never get my hands on, which REALLY is a huge bummer).
Crazy enough, my wife did! She’s intimidated by 5 strings and this one is like her fav colour! I think she’ll let me play it. :D It’s heritage is obvious in relation to my newer ones.

A switch blade is one of my bucket list basses too.

Wonder if enough of us begged and threw money at @Sheldon D. if they'd do one limited run of PITA Switch Blade basses :D
