Dingwall Owners Club

It's usually the hardest part for me, too. With the exception of my current (AB) build. I wanted an extremely red bass. I'm going for the look of well-oxygenated blood.
I typically like the green to purple end of the spectrum for my basses. It’s not a hard and fast rule, though, I have a red Ibanez, and I’m strangely attracted to the Capri Orange MiM P-bass that’s available.

The top one was the first incarnation of my bass. It’s amazing and looks glorious in person. If I could have kept both I would have indeed.

Been thinking a lot about finishes for my Z. I do really like the Nebula Burst:

But I would kind of like it to be just brighter and more saturated. Very vibrant. I’m also tempted to try a reverse of that (reverse burst bright green on the outside, deep blue in the middle), but I’m iffy, without an example.

Then there’s the really, really strong draw of the purple to turquoise reverse bursts that they’ve got a fair few pictures of:

So hard to choose, I swear.

The pictures of some of these instruments make them look amazing but then in person it’s another level of WOW!

That genre of metal is usually where I draw the line... it's always the vocals that turn me off. I actually really really liked that song! Still don't know what he's saying but it flowed extremely well and sounded interesting.
I mostly have no clue what Oliver is grumbling about but I get enthralled with the precision and arrangement of their writing. His lyrics are really cool but… you have to read them vs try to understand him. Lol.
Check out relentless mutation for some very classically driven music by them.

Idly playing while watching TV this afternoon, and I noticed something interesting. Among my parallel fretted basses, I’m easily most comfortable on my parts bass that uses my original bass’ neck (a J I bought in ‘93), it just feel like home for my hands. But while I knew that my D-Roc was nearly as comfortable after just 8 months with it, I noticed today that I play four string parts on my NG3 6-string better and easily more comfortably than ANY of my parallel/fretted basses. This kind of blows my mind.

Been digging around in old threads to see what people thought/felt back then, and 20 years ago today I stumbled across this:

Ordered my new bass!!!!

I also seen where 21 years ago people felt $1000 was too much for a new EBMM. It would be cool to have analytics ran on various things like that.

I find the other end of the market fascinating. In 1993, I bought my first bass, a MiM J, for $400. Today, I can get a bass finished to a higher quality than that one was for less money. The gains in quality and features at the lower end of the market are really incredible.

Did someone say Capri Orange P???

I’ve had La Bella Low Tension flats on this for a couple months. Time to switch back to rounds. Is anyone using Elixir strings in their Supers? I used to love them in high school and I’m curious if I would feel the same today.

Oh yeah. I've never been drawn to orange basses or vice-versa, but this one floats my boat every time I see it.

I haven't been around much for a while. Is this a new one? It looks different to me than pics you've posted in the past of a green/purple monster.

I agree. In my opinion you give more clearance to the thicker strings by adjusting the bridge saddles higher. The curve of the neck mostly affects the fret buzz in the lower region, up to the 12th fret.
The thing is, that as I adjust the truss rod I already have enough gap measured at the B string, it plays nice and there is no buzz, but at the G string the gap is very small, I have massive buzz from fret 1-7. This is what concerns me.

A slight amount of extra relief under the B-string is normal and desireable. It sounds like you have a little more than "slight" so I recommend taking it to a qualified tech who can level the fretboard under tension to correct the buzzing along the G-string.

Finally getting a little settled after moving into a new place and got some time for a few pictures. Thought I would add to the burl goodness that's been posted lately:

Nebula

As has been stated many times before there simply is no way for a camera to capture the magic of these in person in the right light. The edges and back of Nebula are a royal purple and Bloodmoon just glows in sunlight. I'd be very interested in seeing Galactus or any of the green/purple finishes in person.
