I’m bored, and have been thinking about the topic of import Supers, if the lovely people at Dingwall decide to give us such things. What do you lot think a production Super P or J would look like? What features and colors would you like to see (tempered by common sense, of course)?
My own musings have me thinking the body and neck woods would probably be simple, alder/ash and maple, and I’d guess both maple and PF fretboards, like the Combustions. I suspect the headstock would be simplified, flat and without that nifty scooped out area, and with a more mundane string retainer. Prior to the 5-string D-Rocs, I’d have bet on individual bridges, like the 4-string D-Rocs and Combustion models, but now I don’t know. A solid bridge would be awesome.
Colors is where I really find myself going down a rabbit hole, between what I think is likely and what I would like to see. I would bet on black and on a sunburst of some kind, but beyond that I couldn’t guess. I’d love to see Lake Placid Blue, but don’t know how likely that is. The Metalflake Aquamarine and the blue/purple colorshift D-Rocs show that they’re willing to get a little more fancy for this kind of level, so maybe something like that lovely Metallic Sage color, or even some of the candies.

I think that there would be a whole lot more happy Dingwall players if Sheldon makes this happen.
No doubt. I want one, and getting one made is on the list, but there are basses ahead of it in the queue for Canadian Ds.I think that there would be a whole lot more happy Dingwall players if Sheldon makes this happen.
When I’m bored I pick up my Dingwall and play it. It’s a lot of fun. Stuff like arpeggios, 2-5-1 in all keys, maybe a little tapping, slapping, work on our band tunes. It really works great for me.
B/M parallel is the setting I want to try most. Your description sounds like I would have use for that in other situations. B/M series is a little 'in your face" for me, but I haven't explored that setting very much.
B/M(s) was my go to when I was cutting through a LOUD metal mix.
B/M(p) is definitely a covering “Do I Do” vibe more so. It also works really great for the fretless. It’s quite a bit more cleaner and polite. It’s a such a great flavour if it’s not being drowned out by Marshall stacks cranked to 11
Ok all you D’wallers. Got a Super J custom build in queue. Definitely going with the 2 pickup passive. So you players with wenge neck and board…do you dig it? Stability? I live near Nashville…hot and humid summers…unpredictable temp swings in Winter. What body wood are you using? Billy at Dwall says they typically match wenge with alder…going for a solid color so not an issue. Tech guy says all their necks are stable (I know I have a maple + maple) but maple/pau ferro is the most stable. And finally and perhaps a tad early…I hope everyone has a safe, enjoyable and fawnky holiday!
I had a dream a while back about a bright yellow Metal flake SJ. I think it had a white abalone pick guard. this is close
Oddly I want this and I don’t see myself ever speccing all at the same time.

I really like the wenge/wenge neck on my Super P. You can hear some sound samples a few posts ago
I haven’t had any stability issues so far. I received the bass around February this year and I’ve only adjusted the truss rod once by a minimum amount.
While I don't have a super, I have roughly 10 basses and my all wenge Z3 is the most stable neck I have and it's not even close. I live in Iowa were we also swing from the double 90s (temp/humidity) into hard drier winters.
My custom PJ I'd supposed to be here next month and I went with a maple neck with wenge board, I'll be curious to see how it compares.
I love all Wenge necks. I don’t currently have a Dingwall with that but I have had 2 while living in the swamps of North Central Florida. It’s the most brutal weather in Florida as there is no ocean breeze, the elevation is really low, it’s the hottest, humidiest and coldest part of the state. Yes, I made up humidiest but it works.
But yeah, never a stability issue and I was gigging indoors and outdoors at that time.
I thought I might be commissioning a Super PJ and I was going with all wenge. I was second in line apparently for a build spot and didn’t get it. But, I did find a nice, ~10 year old Super J:
I am super excited, pretty sure it is routed out for a P so I will probably pursue making that change. I am willing to hotrod this one and have some fun. Should be here in a few days.

I’m in Kansas, so I deal with similar climate changes. Of my Super Js my Wenge/Ebony is the most stable compared to my all maple. I recently treated my Supers to a proper setup after not changing strings or making any adjustments for over a year and my tech mentioned that he didn't have to do much of anything to the Wenge neck but put new strings on.
My Super PJ with Maple/Wenge is too new to know how it will compare. It will be interesting to see how it holds up compared to the older all maple neck. My old Super J has the 5 piece maple neck vs. the single piece necks of the newer models.

I had a wenge/wenge slim taper Jazz neck from Warmoth and it was super stable.
Remember, it’s a Dingwall. They’re built to withstand the fluctuations of the climate in Saskatchewan. Any neck you get will be super stable.
