I tried one in Japan but wasn't a fan ...it wasn't a DW though so I'd almost like to try one again....this one wasn't so smooth can't remember the brand....I absolutely love the look of them though!

I’m bored, and have been thinking about the topic of import Supers, if the lovely people at Dingwall decide to give us such things. What do you lot think a production Super P or J would look like? What features and colors would you like to see (tempered by common sense, of course)?

My own musings have me thinking the body and neck woods would probably be simple, alder/ash and maple, and I’d guess both maple and PF fretboards, like the Combustions. I suspect the headstock would be simplified, flat and without that nifty scooped out area, and with a more mundane string retainer. Prior to the 5-string D-Rocs, I’d have bet on individual bridges, like the 4-string D-Rocs and Combustion models, but now I don’t know. A solid bridge would be awesome.
Colors is where I really find myself going down a rabbit hole, between what I think is likely and what I would like to see. I would bet on black and on a sunburst of some kind, but beyond that I couldn’t guess. I’d love to see Lake Placid Blue, but don’t know how likely that is. The Metalflake Aquamarine and the blue/purple colorshift D-Rocs show that they’re willing to get a little more fancy for this kind of level, so maybe something like that lovely Metallic Sage color, or even some of the candies.

What do y’all think/would like to see?

I agree on the wood choices, I think alder body with maple and choice of fretboard would be perfect. Totally on board with you and LPB, that was my first thought since my first bass my dad got for me is that color. Some other big flake metallics would be really cool, especially a yellow or green. (red is not my jam! )

A selection of trim would be cool, like standard models fretboards with dots or "deluxe models" with bound and blocked boards, maybe matching headstocks on the deluxe trim versions as well.

(Apologies to @Sheldon D. if this comes to fruition and you're buried in orders indefinitely!)

Sharing this for no particular reason other than it exists...

This is the open F#0 string (.170 tapered) on my NG2 with the stock bridge pickup soloed and moved to the center pickup position (so one "space" closer to the neck). No effects or anything (DTC on, but all controls at noon)...straight into the audio interface.

You guys are really good - love bands that play with heavier guitars/bass and clear vocals. Nice mix.

I really like that! Your singer reminds me of of Tesseract when Ashe O'Hara was their singer, which is a good thing. I won't link it here as to steal thunder from anyone, but if you want to hear it go to Youtube and look for 'Tesseract - Of Matter (Live At Shere Studio)'

I'm doing it.. I'm putting an order in for an AB1 3X through FN. The NG3 bass has just taken me by storm and I have been playing it non stop for days now. I'm beyond satisfied by these basses. I have the body/finish/pickups/electronics in mind but I'm having a REAL hard time deciding on neck woods. I've read through pages of this thread but *current* opinions are what I'm after here so off to the races..

I've always played alder body & maple neck with either pau ferro or rosewood board. 30+ years.. the NG is my first maple/maple neck, and holy cow, I love it. One thing I could never get from RW or PF is that extra brightness. You can always bring that down, but it's really hard to try and add that back in at the amp or with pedals. I want this build to be versatile... reggae on Friday, punk on Saturday if you get my drift. So that said, I was planning on a quilt top to the alder body on my AB1 - in theory, that will brighten up the alder, so would maple/maple neck be too bright? My NG3 can go from angry to smooth.. I'm looking to reproduce that with the fancy top and all the goodness that comes with a Canadian build.. Maybe maple/pau ferro?

Simple... I have not tried a DW with wenge. Its hard to really get a "feel" for it from internet vids, and with the tech available for home recording I'm not sure what I'm hearing. My only experience with wenge is Warwick and I have never liked the sound or the feel of a Warwick. Too compressed, not broad enough of a tone for my tastes. I've never owned one, those are just impressions from minimal use. The DW wenge/wenge might come across to me differently. If anyone has a wenge/wenge neck near San Diego, I'd love to try it out.. I'll bring my bass as collateral, lol..

Anyway.. some neck wood combo opinions would be appreciated. Just remember reggae on friday, lunatic fingerstyle at 200bpm on saturday...

I’d be super curious about a Ovangkol/PF combo for neck woods.
Any chances @Sheldon D. could give us a description of his discoveries with the Ovangkol necks?

What about ovangkol? I hear it is very close to walnut. I have a walnut necked Dingwall and it is a nice balance between the maple and wenge.

What's the current lead time? That's the only thing stopping me from ordering a new one, I'm afraid if I order one now that my band won't even exist by the time I get it! And I'm not too picky about colors and such, I may just have to take a chance that a used ABZ 5 string pops up. I've found a few, but they are priced higher than a new one would cost (because they have fancy cosmetic features that I would not order), but then there's the wait. Time crawls while waiting for your Canadian build slot to come around. That said, I caved and made a call to Jason at FN about an NG3 in F#0. He also very helpfully sent me their new, more detailed instruction sheet for the six-way switch.

We really didn't discuss that yet, I would have to assume it's along the same time frame everyone else has mentioned. A year+ maybe? I really don't know. We've been doing the "do it", "I'm almost ready", "just do it" back and forth for the last week. I finally just said YES. I should have more details in the next few days.

Unfortunately it's that darn Warwick bias again. I'd love to try a DW with either wenge or ovangkol. I'm sure it would change my mind!
